kenjie531I was wondering about the same thing. What I hear from others is that while e10k may be able to power them, they can't bring them to their full potential. I recently purchased Schiit Vali 2 to tame the highs. I'm going to use e10k as a dac.
kenjie531E10K can output 200mW @ 32Ohm.
These need around 1.4W (7x the power) @ 35Ohm.
That means don't turn the volume up or you'll get a clip-fest and HE4XX doesn't sound good quiet. I don't call that a good match, but YMMV.
HeeftyThank you for that @Heefty. How did you get the 1.4W needed and what do you think think will be powerful enough to power this under 150$ for a DAC/AMP combo?
kenjie531I can't recommend anything in that price range from personal experience. I have seen good reviews on the FX Audio DAC-X6 which should get you close to where you want to be for HE4XX. It will get you up to ~119dBpeak SPL.
Another option is to keep your E10K and for its DAC and drive a better amp with it. If you go that route, O2 is good (that's what I typically use with mine) if a little sterile. Magni3 is supposed to be very good as well, and has the added benefit of doing much better with high impedance cans like HD650/HD6XX etc.
ChiropractorVali2 costs $50 more and can't source the same current as Magni3. Magni3 will give 4xx some overhead. Vali2 won't.
Either way you're into the realm of arguing subjective differences though.
Heeftyi think i might go with the O2+SDAC when it drops. Thanks for the input

HeeftyBoth the Vali 2 and the Magni sound like dung IMO. Loud and powerful, yes. But constrained sounding and poor texture across the board. Do yourself a favor and spend a few more bucks and get the Massdrop Cavalli CTH. It is infinitely better. If you have anything for ears, you'll be blown away by the difference.
