I understand this is a re-programmable board, but the rest of the appeal is lost for me. Can someone shed some light on why this is such a popular drop?
Dylaan96KDesigned by Input Club -> +, Trust in their design choices and build-quality of the KB
ANSI tenkeyless layout (TKL, 87 keys) -> +/- , many people wanted a full KB too, but TKL is alright for me.
Fully programmable -> +++, selfexplaining
CNC anodized aluminum frame -> +
Kaihua mechanical switches with light pipe casings -> +, interested in the two new Halo switches
Cherry stabilizers -> +/-
PBT doubleshot backlit keycaps (OEM profile) -> +/-
Hot-swappable switch inserts -> +++
Floating key design -> +, design choice allows to quickly swap switches and easy cleaning
Detachable magnetic aluminum foot -> +/-, better than a breakable clip-footing i guess?
Dual USB type-C connectors -> +/-, the second usb-c is not for passthrough unless kll-hardware
Programmable RGB LED backlighting and underlighting (16.8 million colors, over 100 FPS) -> ++, bells & whistle
Open-source hardware -> +, if demand is high maybe customization kits will be produced by independent manufacturers
XenoPinguYour reply makes a tonne of sense, I can see you took a lot of time putting it together and I greatly appreciate the response. I'm still on the fence about this board, as the last board I purchased from MD was upwards of the same price and I was receiving chatter in my keys not long after purchasing it.
Dylaan96KKey chattering is mainly caused by a prolonged contact bounce deviation of the pressed key within a switch. As Input.club/HaaTa has tested switches from different manufacturers, the Kaihua switch properties remained pretty constant over time, meaning faulty key chattering switch quantities should be really low. And if you get a bad chattering switch, you can hot swap it out on the K-Type. But another question is how durable the hot swap inserts are in "real world usage" which are probably soldered onto the pcb.
Dylaan96KYou could always join the WhiteVox kickstart if this one is to pricy for you..
it's too pricy for me as i live in The Netherlands country were we give companies 100% tax brakes but ask consumers to pay an additional 31% when importing..still it's a damm good keyboard.
And Hataa nows his stuff. Getting a better keyboard is not possible without building / assembling it your self. so for me at this moment it's the best i can get..that's the reason why i'm getting one and that i have bin following this project for 2yr's now.
