so one major complaint i have is that massdrop skimped out on the stabilizers in a MAJOR way!!!! the rattling is completely unbearable to me and it was a MAJOR turn off right from the start!
luckily, i've got a hotswap modded 750RT so i took the switches and subsequently also the stabs out (cherry) and put them into the k-type. lo and behold, no more rattling. granted, the spacebar from the side looks a bit iffy (because the stab is black), but the board is now WAAAAAY more comfy to type on.
i recommend everyone to buy aftermarket stabs (cherry) and replace these crappy ones.
EDIT: aftermarket PLATE MOUNTED stabs :)

TuxKeyI think the ones on the k type are cherry-style, but not official cherry ones.

Spectei tweeted your post to input club if you don't mind i like them to explain this to me.. strange..they where boasting this to be the best ever keyboard. hearing such things for a $200 +$10 + $70 boards is not what i expect to see from them.. was considering getting the whitefox when it will be available in stores input club is working on that.. but hearing all this hmm..

TuxKeySure thing. I know the drop did say cherry stabilizers, so maybe I'm mistaken. They rattle too much to believe they are official cherry ones though.

Spectethese are cherry-style, chinese knockoffs. the are nowhere as snug as cherry ones, which causes a lot of rattling. also, the wire is significantly thinner than the one on the cherry, so that contributes too.

skukoThe drop says cherry stabilizers. That's super misleading. Wtf Massdrop? Any idea where I can buy some in the US?

TuxKeyit's pretty straightforward.
1. pull the switch out with the supplied switch puller 2. the stabilizer has a latch on the upper side, which you can push in with a very narrow flathead screwdriver and pull upwards at the same time. the stabilizer will just come out after you do this on both sides.

Specteit's not confusing. all stabilizers of this type are named cherry, that's just the way it is. the other type (with the wire outwards is called costar, because of the company that manufactures them.

TuxKeyI don't think the situation is all that comparable. IC will have far more control over the White/Nightfox than it did over the K Type. Besides, the K Type is still a fine board - it's very well constructed and the switches are fantastic. So while I wish the stabilizers weren't shit, they can easily be replaced easily enough.
You can wait for the kickstarter boards show up and read reviews if you're worried, I suppose.

jar75Thanks hope i can replace the stabilisers Skuko explained it a couple posts above but i think i'l have to watch a youtube example to see what he means or see if i can find a posting on Geekhack or Deskthority. Still for the almost $300 i'l be paying for it it's not appreciated at all. $10 shipping and $70 customs fees (not yet arrived but the delay suggests that i'l be paying true the noise for this one)..

SpecteWhen it comes to stabilizers, there is a difference between 'cherry stabilizers' and 'genuine cherry stabilizers' so keep that in mind in the future. You're not really going to find mass-produced keyboards using genuine cherry stabilizers.

CyphreThanks for the clarification. I assume the whitefox also uses cherry-style stabilizers?

SpecteThe original whitefox used Costar stabilizers as far as I remember. No idea what they are using in the recent kickstarter.

crazyg0od33Zeal makes some really nice ones, though I think they cost a bit more than genuine cherry stabs. I'll probably be getting some of those along with some Zealios to make some Zealiostotles.

tragedyfoundusI think Zeal only makes PCB mount stabs - you need plate mount for the K Type.

damnheadphonesPlate mount aren't as common, so any clear ones you do find won't necessarily be any better quality than the ones currently included.

skukoI wonder if there is any way to mod the existing stabilizers to make them less rattly? Also, the space bar seems ok, it is mostly the backspace, enter and shift keys that suck.

saulyswConsidering the width I see just looking straight at it, you could probably minimize side to side movement with teflon tape on either side of the slider, or perhaps look into the old band-aid mod. I'm just going to add some PTFE grease on mine and see how that works out, because it generally has made cheap stabs at least moderately nicer for me. All it really needs to do is prevent the plastic slider from scraping and tapping against the sides.

kevinhi pressed them in with a flat end of a screwdriver, the sharp edge of the hole in the plate shaved off some of plastic, so they fit.

kevinhToo big for mine as well. I tried putting in the old base with all the other new parts, but everything still rattles. I'm gonna have to force em in as well I guess. Though just pulling and replacing the stabs seems to have helped some of the issues I was having with my delete key (wasn't registering keypresses every time). I think that some of these problems might be install issues as much as parts.
