Support for Alternative Layouts
This is a summary of how alternative layouts have been supported by kits such as Colevrak and Homing. It is not a discussion of alt layout performance and development, but if that interests you I highly recommend starting with Pascal Getreuer’s A guide to alt keyboard layouts (why, how, which one?). It’s a concise and comprehensive overview with links to some great sites that go deeper. He also has a separate Links about keyboards page. The Keyboard layouts doc he recommends explains layout goals and metrics in detail, summarizing the alt layouts discussed here as well as more than one hundred others. Sculpted-profile The majority of custom keycap sets are sculpted-profile (Cherry, SA, MT3, KAT, etc. - more on profiles generally here) so let’s start there. Because each row has a unique keycap shape, alt layouts require a unique keycap for each legend that moves off its QWERTY row. Happy to report that the K-Types have arrived at our warehouse, and are now being packed up for shipment! Tracking numbers should start appearing in the next few days, and we expect all units to leave our warehouse by November 10.
We’re super excited to share our months of work with everyone, and want to thank you all for being with us every step of the way.
I’ve also created a talk post to help you set up your K-Type. Please check out http://dro.ps/ktype-setup and let us know if you have any questions.
We hope you are as pleased with the keyboard as we are!
But you never know!

And yes, I have decided not to buy from Massdrop anymore. Between delays, the fiasco that was the Ergodox, sending everyone that entered the xd60/64 gb the wrong plates, the mess ups with the plancks, double/triple shipping to some customers on Godspeed while the China Proxy ends up having several thousand dollars worth of caps cancelled by them for their mess up, I've lost all respect for this site. If you'd like more information, you're welcome to checkout www.massdrama.com
I also have no idea what your last sentence is in reference to. If you're talking about the Halo Trues debacle, yes, you are right. Without having full information it's not a complete picture. That being said, that doesn't prevent anyone from drawing conclusions on what information is available. And based on the information available, I stated my position and views on the matter. Much like you did when you said:
" Just because the agreement input club signed was violated by input club themselves, you’ve decided to not buy stuff from massdrop. Lol! "
Based on incomplete information. So I suggest you take your own advice, and I'll continue with mine.
You're also proving my point you can't follow the thread haha
This is rediculous and completely unacceptable.
I have been in contact with the company delivering the parcel (Australia Post) and they told me they did not require a signature. Every other parcel I've had with massdrop required one. Why did this not require one for something that was a limited run, serialized and when I was in the group of below #600 serialization and will likely never run again due to the issues between MD and IC?
Extremely dissapointed with this. I've been involved in about 50 different drops and this is extremely unacceptable to happen and will never be purchasing through massdrop again as a result of this.
Hopefully the same fate doesn't happen to my HD6XX that are already on their way to my house
I'll be extremely pissed if that does.
Edit: So Massdrop informed me that their current distribution agreement no longer includes signature on delivery.
FWIW, massdrop uses giant boxes for keycaps that come in a tray and those don't remotely fit in the mailbox lol
Razer Blackwidow Ultimate (Costar) CM Storm TriggerZ (Costar) Skydigital nKeyboard Mechanic (Cherry) Corsair Strafe RGB (Cherry) KBP V80 (Costar) Obins Anne Pro (Chinese Cherry Clone) Redragon Kala (Chinese Cherry Clone) TeamWolf Zhuque+ (Chinese Cherry Clone) Topre Realforce RGB (Topre) WASD Code (Costar) Mionix Zibal 60 (Costar) Vortex Pok3r RGB (Custom Cherry-like stabilizers?) KBD75 (Cherry) Input Club K-Type (WTF?!)
Until today I thought that the ones on the Anne Pro are the worst. This KB proved me wrong. Basically they put the worst stabilizers possible on a KB that has a price on par with the KBD75 and second only to the Realforce RGB. The $50 Kala and Zhuque+ have better stabilizers!
I want to hear that they have some compensation/remediation plan for the mess they have created on a KB that was $243 (with taxes). I don't want apologies as now I have to order Cherry Stabilizers, wait for them to arrive and void the warranty to get this KB to a decent state.
Should companies like Kailh get in on that market? Of course! But that has literally always been the case and the reason why people still buy genuine Cherry stabs or the rare, expensive offerings from places like Zeal. There was definitely no way either of those were going to show up here. Other noteworthy alternate offerings need to exist first before we'll ever see 'good' Cherry stabs on a mass-produced board.
I read this and I realized that the stabs can be removed without opening the case so I went ahead and took out the stabs, lubed them and put them back in. Now it's much better though the right shift will need to be re-lubed at some point as it's not as silenced as the others.
As for comparing the board to a similarly priced one with Cherry stabs, I already did, I compared it to my KBD75 hat has original Cherry stabs.
For anyone reading this looking for a solution to the rattly stabilizer issue: short term go with lube. If you want it to feel like it should, drop another $10-15 and get a set of plate mount Cherry stabilizers, clip and lube them, swap them in and enjoy. After the swap, the thing actually feels and sounds like a $200+ 'board. There's just no comparison.
BTW note to Massdrop: next time you have a premium product on offer, don't skimp on the things that matter especially when the difference in price is so small. I'd have paid an extra $5-10 for good stabs out of the gate, but I'm not sure it would have required even that much.
Congrats on the swap. It's sort of the point of this board, being able to change just about anything
