Hi everyone,
We have an update on the status of the Massdrop x Matt3o /dev/tty MT3 Custom Keycap Set. Production is underway and the tooling for the various new keycaps is almost complete. We wanted to let everyone know that the collating and quality control check process is taking longer than we originally planned, and with these delays we now estimate the the keycaps will ship to members in late August.

YanboWuIt is unfortunate that we're seeing delays in round 2.
After 3 months of delays on the original round of production I'd have imagined that most of what was to be learned about the production of this set would have been learned.

TransATLThe problem is last time we waited 3 months for them to 'get it right' they still sent out obviously defective kits.

bob123I will note that Massdrop did offer an ample credit to my account for the delays in round 1, and I still got my order too.
I am just surprised that there seems to be a lot more to learn on round 2.

YanboWuI find it hard to extremely hard to believe that it was not apparent there was going to be a delay until 2 weeks before the ship date. You need to be more communicative throughout the drop. All we heard was crickets until now.

KryyDoes it make a difference? Did this mess up some meetings and calendar events in your busy schedule?
Delays are expected and normal here and in the keyboard community- if you can't handle it then perhaps find a new hobby.

schoolbusWhile I agree with your sentiment towards patience, I did not purchase this massdrop as some part of a hobby. I did so to make my day to day typing experience more comfortable, so no, this is not going to disrupt my schedule, but it IS none-the-less annoying with real world impact. I imagine that a number of other people also purchased these keycaps as a matter of comfort rather than as a collectible.
And yes, delays are sometimes expected, but that does not make it any less frustrating, especially if someone has been waiting a long time. For instance, if we just missed the initial drop and had to wait for the new drop to open.
Just some thoughts.

fatgeekukI can agree with both sides. I think it would be a lot easier to be patient if Massdrop was more transparent with their updates. Even if just to say earlier on, “hey we’re working on qc and things are coming along nicely but we do foresee a bit of a delay to ensure better qc this round.”
without those updates it can feel a little disingenuous to then say just two weeks before the expected ship date that they’re running behind, and a little harder to have patience having been led to believe things were running on time.
With that said, Massdrop is getting better with their communication. It still has a ways to go but at least it’s getting better and I at least appreciate that they’re more concerned about qc this time around.

cijanzenYup, I can appreciate everything youve said. they DO seem to be getting better, there is still a way to go. The other issue for me is that why is this still a massdrop and not a conventionally funded product available with normal lead times? or is there simply not the demand?

schoolbusI paid money for a product that was said to be delivered at a certain time. I can appreciate that there are unforeseeable factors that would delay the delivery of the product. I expect that if a situation arises where the product will be delayed, that I will be kept informed about the status of the product that I have paid for in advance. I think it is very unlikely that massdrop was unaware that there would be a delay until now, and consequently I am frustrated that they were not transparent about the status of the drop.
The drop being delayed is not the issue, it's the lack of transparency about the delay.
Thanks for the weird condescension and gatekeeping though, that's always fun.

Dotwad11Yeah, probably. Though to be fair, I was the same way when I started here. It's very different than the large production KB goods, so it's hard to get used to the constant delays. Usually worth the wait, though.

YanboWu@YanboWu I know you and your team are probably very busy with all the projects you're having to manage right now, but we are a third of the way through August now and I have to echo others here in that we are moving past early August for another status update. Even if it's just a message like "Hey, we're just waiting on QC to finish before moving into final production" I think it would go a long ways to dispel any anxieties around this drop. Looking forward to the final production, and thanks for your time!
Edit: just got the email with the update. Thank you! It’s a little sucky to have to wait a little longer but I appreciate having a rough eta and the credit is nice too.
