Will it work with Fiio K1 or need a bigger amp to work?

hardikYou don't really need an amp for these.
MaximusPrimeThese definitely benefit from an amp, I can tell you that from experience. On a phone, I can easily max their volume and they're still.not very loud or dynamic. Out of my amp, they sound substantially better and take on the quality you would expect.

MaximusPrimeI think that statement is false. You generally either need a DAP with decent amping, or a standalone amp or DAC/amp. These things really eat up juice. I tried them on a Samsung Note 2 (the P1) and on a Asus Zenfone 3 (PX), both times the sound quality wasn't fully realised and getting to a sufficient volume was difficult. I listen at about 78 - 82dB calibrated with white noise. I'd suggest that if you listen at even average volumes or have any kind of discernment in your ear, you should get something that will give these more juice than the average phone (LG v10/20/30 excepted).

micahjroseWhat kind of differences did you hear when using an amp? I compared output from my phone (OP5T) and my desktop amp (SMSL sapII, not really ideal though), and didn't hear any significant difference.

MaximusPrimeI listen on-the-go with my iFi iDSD BL and they definitely have more punch and sound bigger. The level of micro-detail retrieval is also higher than just listening out of my phone which really softens and congests everything. Same goes when I listen out of the CTH and use the iFi as my DAC. The PX really do like the extra power and when amped really start punching above their price range. They are always pretty bass-light but what is there is tight and they have good detail retrieval and a pretty big soundstage for being a DD. That's just been my overall experience on amped vs. not amped.

MaximusPrimeI just did some back and forth comparisons with 3 DAPs (Aune M1S, Shanling M2S, and Audio Opus Opus #3) and my phone (Asus Zenfone 3). The DAPs all had similar effects versus the phone: they widened the sound stage, increased separation, and improved bass accuracy. The difference was not as big as I remembered. Goes to show that you should re-examine your own beliefs regularly. Looking at reviews of the One Plus 5T, it appears that it doesn't get great ratings for audio quality, so if that is the source that is going into your SMSL sapII, then the source may be the bottleneck. I got pretty impressive sound out of my Asus Zenfone 3, but as usual with Android volume control, the sound is either a little too loud or a little too soft with loss of resolution due to the poorly calibrated digital volume control. I recommend getting DAPs over phones if for nothing else than to give a better volume control. On the Zenfone 3, the PX sounded best at 1 click below max. The DAPs all had more headroom and more precise control. Track was Macy Gray - I Try off Stripped (binaural, 24-96).
