Hey everyone,
I’m pretty excited to announce the second keyboard project that I have been working on with Mito - the CTRL keyboard inspired by the awesome XDA Canvas keycap set.
For this one, we went a slightly different route than the Laser ALT. The CTRL keyboard here is not anodized, it is actually powder coated. The powder coat gives the keyboard almost a soft texture similar to ceramic finishes. Additionally, white is not an anodizable color and even though the Canvas CTRL will be in an off-white color I'm not sure that color is achievable via anodization. It is very unique and I’m a huge fan of the finish Mito picked in the end.
One final thing to note about power coating is that there is a higher chance of failure where the finish isn’t up to our standards. With anodization, there is still a possibility of saving the aluminum stock. However, with powder coating failure will result in a defective case that cannot be sold. Thus, you’ll see this keyboard is more expensive than the regular CTRL, even the barebones version.
Mito and I had decided to include both the regular gray modifiers and the Bauhaus modifiers for everyone that really wants to customize the look and feel of their keyboard. Plus I always felt the Bauhaus kit was a pretty integral part of the Canvas experience.
Finally, regarding payment. Please note that we will be collecting payment at the end of the June. This is to allow us to start prepping the powder coat cases. It’s a very involved process and we’d like to have an extra buffer to ensure smooth delivery. If this is an issue for you, please make sure to join the drop after June 30th.
As always, I really appreciate the community’s support and I can’t wait to get these in your hands.
YanboWuNice, but the original appeal of the CTRL and ALT for me was partly due to the shine-through legends.
I hope new keyboards in this series continue to have the nice dark grey / light grey combination of keycaps with shine through legends.
And another wish for me is for MD to release some more keycap sets with shine-through legends specially dedicated to these keyboards.
I ordered the CTRL and ALT and am looking forward to whatever comes next in the original greay style.
Luna55I have the same concern. I like the look of the Canvas keycaps, but I would really like shine-through legends. Might just need to get a separate keycap set, maybe something dark.
basusThere’s a drop on some different color shine-throughs right now. Not as nice as the original light-dark grey though.

YanboWu@MiTo or @YanboWu I would like information on your supplier work conditions, as well as information on the PCB and aluminum housing cost. I am confused why these MiTo exclusive drops are split up when they could have been offered together with the options for the unique variant in the checkout menu. I think that Massdrop split this purchase to sell more keyboards at a higher margin and disguised the move to keep the price of the keyboard higher than if the drop was a combined 1500+ units.
@MiTo if you are putting your name on a sales program sponsored by a business (who is profiting greatly from a community driven group buy model) hopefully you can stand behind the labor conditions of the factory producing your components. Hopefully you are not selling out the name MiTo just so massdrop can sell more keyboards. I am disappointed massdrop is trying to bottle community artists only to turn them into profit machines.
Lastly, the early collection on the laser drop was justified with "we were trying to avoid tariffs," which is an absolute lie. Massdrop customer service has no problem being dishonest to the customer; for example, tariffs are applied during the shipping, not to the date of of purchase. Collecting early doesn't avoid tariffs when the parts are delivered in November. I have pressed massdrop on this publicly and privately and have been absolutely ignored.
@MiTo please help provide answers to these tough questions. I have canceled all of my active drops and been refunded $800 dollars. At this current time I would not recommend massdrop to a friend, as cool and unique as some of the offerings are, it is a fraudulent organization.
Jscrub,
To answer your questions:
· Our supplier conditions pass all standards. And we all stand behind them as a company.
· We're not at liberty to share the price of our components. Many companies aren't. We're no different.
· Drops are sometimes split up to make the number of SKU permutations as low as possible so less problems can occur.
· By putting our purchase for additional parts down earlier - we can guarantee the price of those components to safeguard against future price disruptions.
Lastly, we've made literally every effort to help and hear you, but the continued harassment of the members in the community and myself, and your behavior in general is something we won't tolerate anymore on this site.
Thanks,
Duncan

Thank you so much!
YanboWuHi, I'm a little confused by the payment information. You say you'll collect payment at the end of June, but the drop doesn't end till mid-July. If I join the drop sometime in July, when will I be charged?
kindjie@Duncan Hey, sorry to bother but am I only able to tag people if they are already part of the discussion? I tried to tag @MiTo in a different discussion and it didn't work. Come to notice, I tagged I'm here and it isn't working either...interesting.
P.S. thank you for deleting the scrub, I'm glad to see him/her gone as well.
LefibonacciWe'll be implementing a better tagging system soon so stay tuned! And you're welcome.
Honestly, I never want to resort to removing people, but it was clear that it needed to be done.
DuncanExcellent (: I guess I'll just send a link of the discussion the MiTo and Skully later on if it's necessary.
It's a little disheartening to see it come to that but that person was clearly trying to start up another dispute the way that they did in the ALT drop. I'm just glad you stopped this one early on.
Duncantagging system? this is the first drop I've joined..what does this mean?
edit: rofl nvm...expanded the comments above me and turns out tagging someone in discussion haha. my bad
TekniqsThe current tagging method is to type @ before the username of someone you would like to include in your comment so they will receive a notice of your comment. You choose from a list that pops up over the submit button when you type the @ character. The list content is not consistent, and sometimes the person you want to address is not on it. (Careful; if you insert an @ into existing text, you need to leave spaces on both sides at first or it doesn't work. And if you go back and edit your comment after you submitted it, I don't think the tagged person receives a notice.)
You might be able to find this in Massdrop's Q&A section, but I cannot find the Q&A section. ;)
BlueCrownedI've seen the Help Center. But I've never seen anything explaining how to use @ to tag someone in a comment, have you?
Nor can I find anything that explains how keycap MOQs work - specifically, what options you have when one of the kits in your purchase doesn't meet MOQ and therefore isn't made. Or that sometimes, case by case, a kit that doesn't meet MOQ is made anyway. Even though MOQ questions seem to pop up in keycap drop discussions regularly.
LefibonacciMOQ stands for Minimum Order Quantity. In terms of manufacturing it is the threshold required to get an order placed and produced, and given the context I believe is applicable here.
