Not sure I like the back of the Hoodie, if that were off I'd seriously consider it.
A little mixed feelings on the MD sleeve logo, however it's only on 1 sleeve so it's kinda, sorta, neat.
For the shirt though, 95% polyester, 5% spandex? Really? How about cotton or a cotton/poly blend? For $30 I don't see why you could have that.
BlueCrownedI know it's _based_ off of it, but from what I see compared to other Akira stuff online (actual character stuff) it's only loosely, meaning the pill, but none of the rest of the text or _phone number_ seems to be part of the Akira character clothing at all.
ChurchillWMight be something about dye sub that won't work well with non-polyester, I have no clue.
I always considered base layer to be next to the skin, but with layers over it. I can see where it could be seen as the same thing even if it's your only layer on. Not what I'd refer to it as, but fair enough.
KethPersonally, i find cotton far more comfortable in hot weather. Cotton is much more breathable. Poly feels like i am wearing a garbage bag. It makes me sweat and gives my skin a clammy feeling.
LefibonacciDepends on the quality of the cotton, and how it is woven. Some manufacturers will also pre-shrink the product. I buy 90% of my casual wear in 100% cotton, machine wash all of it on cold, and have never had any shrinkage.
As for the dye process, yes synthetics are necessary for this product. You cannot get that level of vibrancy on natural fibers. They could use a Polypro blend though and get the same result in a much better quality, much more comfortable product. 60% cotton, 40% Polypro would dye just as well, while being vastly more comfortable and would actually justify the cost.
Polyester was originally designed as a replacement for polypro, which was what activewear used to be made from, but it was not due to polyester being any better, it was purely about keeping costs down and maximizing profit. Polypro is actually superior to polyester in almost every way. Unfortunately, Helly Hansen seems to be the only company that still makes anything from it.
