I'm in! Gonna be long wait till June 2018 arrival. Probably not as resolving as HD600/650 I'm fine with it provided they sound better than HD598/599

mike30I’m sure they will sound better than the HD598, it’s rather easy to do so. I never got it that the HD598 were so popular. I never liked them. I bought them a couple of years ago at half price on A Black Friday sale On Amazon.ca. I’m not saying they are bad headphones, just boring to my ears, with too much upper mids and too little lower bass, or maybe the bass is not dynamic or tight enough. At one time, seeing all those raving reviews about the HD598, I started thinking that maybe my pair was a fake, but I bought them directly from Amazon Canada (not a third party reseller). At the time I had only a few pairs of headphones, I remember switching from the HD25 or Amperior to the HD598 and I would get instantly bored. And I recognize that the mids are more resolving on the HD598 due to its open design. And I don’t consider myself a basshead, sometimes I feel my Amperiors are too bassy/mid bassy. At the time It was my only open headphone, apart for my vintage HD420SL from the ‘80s. Yes I really find them boring for listening to music. I already saw a big difference with the coming of my HD600, which I still think it is missing a little something in the bass and fulfillness, maybe a little too much mids in the 2khz region. I know it is not perfect, a little veiled in the highs maybe amd with slightly backward in higher mids maybe, but only the 6xx/650 fulfills me and gives me goose bumps while listening to music. I still use the HD598 on very few times when I listening to TV shows or light sounding movies..they are good at listening to vocals. They are too boring for anything else. Let’s hope the HD58x is closer to the 600/650 than the 598... I can see by the graphs from the 58x that it has a slightly recessed upper mids compared to the HD600, just like the 660s, which may be a good thing. I can only guess and hope the mids will be in between the 600 and 650. However the bass under 100hz is lower than the HD600 and 660s and that scares me a lot. I know Massdrop has asked Sennheiser to tune it with more bass/sub bass before the final release of the 58x but we don’t know what the final result the bass will be on the final production version of the 58x and that stops me from joining the drop at this time. I hope Massdrop can update us on this very soon.

tessierpgDidn't like 598 either, in fact 598Cs (closed) so much better to my ears. I hope 58x bring similar soundstage if not better, with more bass, detail and overal higher audiophile level. If not it's gonna be flop. Yeah about addtional bass tuning this makes current reviews kind of irrelevant.... I guess most people don't want to be beta testers, that's why the drop isn't going well. so unfortunetly currently we have no idea what we're buying :( But if the tuning be good then it's going to be like winning lottery ticket :)
