I've been living with my HD6xx pair for a year and now... this. Talk me off the ledge or give me a push. Will I love one or the other or be forever torn and confused? I currently drive the 6xx from my DAW PC > Grace SDAC > MD O2 amp. I find them very listenable but now all this new jabber has me thinking I should care about a pair of 58x J. So confused for so little money. 'Feeling like a person can't go wrong and yet... will I later feel tricked by the marketing?

dpaulkuWell, I don't have the HD6xx myself to compare with, but during my time of considering the HD58x's (which I've now owned for about half a year) I've been gobbling up any information and opinion I could find, and based on that...
I guess the first thing to consider is, well, do you already love your 6xx's?
If 150$ are peanuts to you, you could always try them out, I guess, just be aware that the comments i found which contained the most mixed opinions on these are almost always from people who already own the 6xx's or the 600's. They're not crazily different, yet enough for some people to claim strong preferences for one or the other. It's pretty obvious from the wildly varied opinions that when comparing the 6xx's and the 58x's it's mostly a question of taste.
I don't personally suspect that they will be a mind-blowing experience for you if you're already content with your 6xx's, tbh.

dpaulkuHaving owned both, I feel that the 58X Jubilee has a few positive qualities over the 6XX. But i ordered both of them about the same time, the 58X just arrived first.
I've since given both away as gifts. One to my stepfather (who's a recording engineer) and one to my mother (who just wanted nice headphones).
The 6XX is nice, to my ears, it's the deeper headphone. It draws your attention to parts of the music that you might not normally notice. It's not fine treble detail though... Though the 6XX is plenty resolving imo.
The 58X has more treble energy comparatively, and doesn't scale like the 6XX does. However, it's easier to drive, and it's lower cost made it easier for me to bring to work and beat on. Plus, I worried less about doing mods. With the 6XX I was too scared of ruining the sound to change the pads. Measurements and anecdotal experience says don't do it. But the 58X? I swapped them Dekoni ELVLs on it, and it seemed to eat some of the treble energy while making the comfort soooo much better.
Plus, the 58X just sounds great in general. I've never hesitated to put it on someone's head to hear what great headphones are. While there isn't as much bass impact on the 58X as the 6XX to my ears, I do feel that the 58X has a more controlled low-end. Similar to the 600 but more present? The 600 is amazingly clear low end, but less impactful than the 6XX or the 58X. Beyond that, I feel that the midrange performance is similar on all of them. The 6XX sounds the sweetest, I think. But the 58X and 600 sound just, really really good and natural. The 58X might be a half step less intimate than the 600 though.
I really enjoyed the 58X and I spent a lot of time listening to it, before I passed it to my mother who listens on her iPhone with the apple Dongle. On that, it sounds good. With the Dekoni pads, it's super comfortable as well. I mean, this is subjective but as someone who owned both, I don't regret owning the 58X and the 6XX at the same time. I think they're both fine headphones, and if you're curious, and can afford a pair, buy one. Or see if a friend will lend you one to test for a few weeks.
I don't know your ears though, and some prefer the 6XX or the 600. The good news is that because it's a decently popular MD item, you will probably be able to sell it quick if you don't like it! Good luck!
Side note: for anyone who wants to know what tracks I generally test with and what my upstream gear was for testing, I've used them all with the SDAC+O2 combo unit, Aune Stack, and Fiio Q1 Mark II. With plenty of Flac files. A few of my favorite songs/albums to demo are the Overture from the Halo 3 ODST Soundtrack, Mountains from the Interstellar OST, the whole of Run the Jewels 3, Bayani and Cinemetropolis for bass, as well as some Yosi Horikawa's Letter for imaging. Also, The Little Light of Mine, from Chesky's the Ultimate Headphone Demonstration Disk, and Grandma's Hands from Chesky'sThe Ultimate
Demonstration Disk for vocal prowess and timbre. As well some Binaural Demo Tracks from HD Tracks which I can't remember offhand.

TaylorDTaylor/Neo, thanks much for your comments. I'd like to try them but I'm not rabid about the need. I currently own 6 sets of cans by 5 different makers... none "better" than the HD6xx. I'll mull it over and decide at the last minute most likely. Thanks again.

dpaulkuJust do it. Not a chance you’ll regret it. Not better than 6XX, just different in a positive way. They sound more dynamic, with their great firm extended bass, balanced (but compared to the 6XX: so slightly recessed « in the depth » mids, think of it slightly like traditional british speakers like KEF or B&W in-depth type mids) and clear highs that enhance EDM music for instance. They will not beat the superb and tonally accurate 6XX mids however. In my opinion no other headphone can beat the 6XX mids , no matter how much you spend for a headphone. Enjoy!
Another significative advantage to the 58X is that you may use it without an external DAC or Amp and it still sounds great, for example with my iPad or iPhone unamped (well, with the Apple Lightning to miniplug dongle when using the iPhone X). Don’t get me wrong, an external amp will probably benefit the 58X with more voltage and thus more volume, but the 58X are totally useable unamped, for as long as your source has close to 1V of output from the miniplug out. Most good phones, tablets and computers can provide that kind of output.

dpaulkuI purchased the HD58X and the HD6XX at the same time and have since gifted my HD58X's away. The differences between the two are pretty subtle, but you'll eventually learn to differentiate the two by the HD58X's deeper and more present sub-bass and a tiny bit more treble extension than the HD6XX, the extended treble giving away to a slight grainy-ness to the sound and worse instrument separation. Since the HD58X has half the impedance of HD6XX, they sound much better on my phone than the latter and, hence, travel better. Also, the HD58X surprisingly has a lot of headroom, so you can EQ the bass to get it thumping at the expense of other qualities associated with the headphone. Again, I want to emphasize the difference between the two cans isn't night and day. In the HD6XX's corner, they are smoother and more resolving than the HD58X and apparently scale better than the HD58X.

Ringing in PC38X's
I recently got this headset, and wow is it good. My only issue is when certain people talk on discord, I can hear a really high pitched ringing. I fiddled with a bunch of settings, computer audio and discord, and nothing seems to solve the issue. It is primarily if not all in my right ear only. Is there something wrong with my headset, or was that ringing always there I can just hear it cause the headset is THAT good? I haven't had any issues with any other application, though I have yet to test if I can hear the ringing on a different version of discord, say on my xbox instead of my pc. Only other issue I've had is occasional static, but I can't tell if it's from the headset or the show/game/etc.

Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

Recommendation for my next headphone set? I have Koss 95x
Hey all, What would you recommend I get next and why? I have Koss ESP-95x electrostatic massdrop headphones. These are my first and only audiophile set. I love them. I think my only real requirements is $500 or less for the headphones and that they have a little more low end. I don’t need thump but these are really light on lows…but the experience is still awesome. Also any recommendations on an amp? I only have my electrostatic thingy. I am using the Topping D50 DAC. thx!!
