Makes me seriously regret paying 220€ for a pair of ATH MSR7's from audio technica, these open back beauties do everything they do, just better.
It has amazing low end, sub bass is present and nicely balanced, mids are perfection, highs feel a little recessed making these feel warmer, but I much prefer the highs on these compared to the deafening treble on the MSR7 which fatigues me after a few hours.
Best 150€ I've ever spent!

NocFAHi NocFA, thanks for the review. I also have the MSR7 and I´m also considering to buy the 58x, even if I shouldn´t as I already joined the drop for the Hifiman 4xxs... :-). I wanted to tell you that I had the same feeling about the MSR7. I bought a small amplifier with bass boost (Fiio A1) that I use with the ATH. I don´t use it for the power (you know that these headphones are easy to drive), but for the bass boost. The amplifier is very cheap (I paid around 27€ in Amazon) but improves the bass and makes the listening quite more comfortable. Hope that my advise may help. Kind regards from Ireland :-).

Strange coincidences aside, I did try to dabble with different dac/amp setups with my msr7, even the e10k with its bass boost feature so I can speak from that experience too,
I also attempted some advanced EQ adjustment with them, but there was one huge problem every single time you attempt to change the way the MSR7 sounds and that's the fact it loses all its worth in the process of fixing it,
attempting to add low end kills the highs; now I said that they were deafening but that does not discredit the fact that the superb highs are not its best attribute, they're crystalline clear as a wise Zeos once put it.
The whole charm of these headphones for me personally was how good those highs were, although fatiguing at times they were what made it worth using over something inferior, its high-mids and treble were just perfect.
As soon as you attempt to add any low end the high mids and the highs start to lose their clarity and the whole thing just starts to sound like you opened a damn HP beats program and V shaped the fuck out of it in EQ but it doesn't add anything to the highs, just takes it away and adds a crappy sub-par bass boost.
the MSR7s no matter what you do to them will never have sub-bass, they can have some bass, but never sub-bass.
That's what you gain with the 58x, you lose the clarity on the highs but you gain amazing sub-bass and overall bass performance, keep the detailed mids and retain decent but not as comparable highs, it gains EVEN BETTER imaging and I mean REALLY accurate imaging, so gaming is amazing on them!
I think its a trade off well worth switching over to them, and if you want closer to MSR7 highs with sub bass then you can mod them too as there's a few paths to play around with.
Overall as an avid lover of the msr7 the 58x has been a breathe of fresh air and I don't regret moving on, my use cases are a bit of everything but if I had to pick my most played genre it would almost definitely be EDM, so if you have a similar tastes then I can't recommend them enough, I would tell you to definitely pick up a pair and see for yourself but wait for those pockets to regenerate a bit before doing so.

NocFAWow!!. I see many coincidences here..except that I’m not Irish but Spanish (but settled in IE since 2013).😄. However, when coincidences start to happen they don’t usually stop shot,
so I wouldn’t be surprised that we are typing within miles of distance 😄.
More coincidences: While reading your (prompt and fantastic, very comprehensive and enlightening) reply it happened that (by coincidence ?) I was listening to EDM in my 4xxs (4hero, a recent discovery).
As regards the MSR7, I was quite happy with the small bass boost that the A1 provides, I don’t have the impression that it is affecting other frequencies (which I have when I use AV equalizer or the Topping N1XS amplifier, that also has bass boost But anyway I’m not an expert and you seem to have more technical knowledge than me, so I won’t comment more on this.
As regards the HD58x, I’m actively considering joining the drop after reading how enthusiastic you are about them. And the description that you made of your love for the MSR7 makes me think that we can have a similar sound taste. I was in doubt between 58x and 6xx, but the import taxes make even bigger the price difference, and I’m pretty sure that the more bassy 58x would suit better to my ears. Just in case, could you please tell me how much taxes did you pay for the 58x?. I calculated around 40€, am I right?. Thanks again and good night 🌙
PS: one more question: can the 58x be used without an amp or with a small portable amplifier?. One of the additional reasons why I was reluctant to join for the 6xx was that they seem to be power hungry. And if I replace my MSR7 for the 58x I would like them to be used away from my SMSL SAP II, which I use for the hifimans. Thanks again!!

JosepfeAhaha, just for shits and giggles I'll tell you I'm in the Limerick area,
For the taxes I paid I don't recall exactly but I remember paying VAT twice which I still feel annoyed about, I paid once on the initial transaction from my bank which cost me €26.49 @ @1.13250 and then I paid another €20 or so when it got to the door for VAT collection, so I don't exactly know who's in the wrong here or was there some hidden charge as it showed up right after the transaction for the item (€145.69) went through.
So in total expect to pay €50 give or take €5 in VAT.
For your second question, the 58x can most definitely be powered from a low power device such as a smartphone or media player, in fact it reaches good volumes through them, that goes without saying they REALLY open up when using a good dac/amp combo unit or seperated, and they benefit from balanced setups a lot too, so the adaptability is almost endless if you want to make them sound even better, I've heard these sound amazing on tubes as well but I've not tested that yet as my p20 is in the mail some place lost most likely.
I currently run them off an SMSL m3 amp/dac combo because its small and it doesn't need any more power than that, I do plan on trying it balanced sometime soon when the THX 789 comes back in stock! :P

As regards the 58x, the final product will be around 180€, which is still a good deal for this quality headphones. I think I will go for it, life is short and we have to enjoy it!.
