I like the color but not gonna support this kit "base numpad splitting" trend. Already passed on Jamon, Minimal, and Wavez, now I'll just spend big and support Skiidata, Nines, and Metropolis.

okidnaNot sure what your problem with the trimmed down kit is. If you add the numpad kit on this drop, the price comes out to be right around the price of a full kit that you would see previously on GMK drops. Numpad kits are also commonly needed enough by most people for it to hit MOQ on the popular sets. This way, the people who use smaller sized boards can get a set for cheaper, and people who use full sized boards don't spend anymore money that they would have otherwise.

Agreed. Set designers are just following trends. Personal anecdote: I thought I'd found layout perfection in the standard TKL, but on a lark joined the first NYM84 buy. After a couple month's use I've decided to downsize my collection. 75% is the largest I'll go from here on out, and I'm glad sets are shrinking to accommodate.

Minimal just ended. Lime, Metropolis, Nines, Wavez, Skiidata are live. Now this? There are simply too many GMK sets running at the same time.

On the contrary, GMK prices have been decreasing quite a bit. It wasn't long ago that GMK sets would cost you $180-$200. While some of them still do, there are a lot more that are coming out in the $110-$120 range, either due to inventory from vendors like Massdrop, or trimmed down kits like this one, Jamon, or Wavez, meaning people who don't use full sized keyboards no longer need to buy a bunch of caps they don't need. And I whole heartedly disagree with the "slap on any colorway and call it a day" sentiment. A lot of these colors are very hard to color match for the prices that inexpensive keysets sell at. There are always imitations, but they are almost always washed out in color. I don't seem to recall any other manufacturer of keycaps that have the sheer amount of variety when it comes to colorway designs as GMK makers do.

> And secondly I feel people have really lost their creatively with kits. Just slap any'ol colorway on a GMK kit and call it day. I strongly agree. Part of the appeal of a kit for me are creative novelties, icon mods or legends. I think Mito is ahead of the game with things like Rams and Micons. DSA Scientific is a very slick and creative theme as well. Every now and then I see something truly original and creative, but just another colorway on GMK doesn't do it for me.

yeah I got the original GMK Carbon with the Novelties for $160 both. However, now that I am looking at the absolute lowest drop point prices it seems it'd be $124 for the base and numpad kit. I'm just not sure that now they're separated it'll hit that low haha.

Beside Calm Depth there's also Bento, which was $150, that's including numpad, ISO support, accent kit, dual legend alphas, AND 18 keys novelties, amazing price.
Hey everyone, Welcome to the custom keycap buy for April at Massdrop. This month, we'll be running @t0mb3ry's GMK Eclipse. GMK Eclipse was inspired by its namesake and will be produced by GMK - a community favorite. For those who are new to the keyboard hobby, GMK keycaps are made via original Cherry tooling in Cherry profile. To many purists, this is the ultimate typing experience. Many feel the combination of MX switches with Cherry profile keycaps reflect the original intent of the designers at Cherry. The set itself with its subtle blues and accents make for a very attractive package - as usual @t0mb3ry's eye for color created something special and I can't wait to see GMK Eclipse produced. Previously, @t0mb3ry has often pushed keycap set designs forward with unique goals - from corrected Cyrillics alphas with GMK Yuri or the reproduction of Cherry Profile Row 0 and Row 5 with GMK Carbon. This time, he has taken a step back with a simpler design, less kits, and more concentration on colors. Some process related notes - if you have an active order that hasn't completed yet and want to make any adjustments to it, please just cancel the order on your transaction page and re-order with your desired kits. This will ensure there are no payment errors when the drop ends. I hope you enjoy this new offering as much as I do and thank you everyone for your support!

Still wishing set designers would reconsider the breakup of numpad and accent keys and go for a full kit. The difference with the breakout like these is that price tends to be higher than if the full kit idea was just kept. It's what originally set GMK apart from SP, now it just hurts the wallet more.

Thanks. I have a Numpad kit ordered. I have until September to find a QMK compatible number pad to put this on. Looking forward to playing with this.

JediThen you have a lot of people (anecdotally, I'd say a majority of people in the custom keyboard hobby who would even be willing to paid $100+ for keycaps) who spend WAY more money for caps they'd never use. Sure, the numpad kit might not hit the order quantity where the price would be reduced as much as it would have been had it been included in the full kit, but what you're asking is for other people to take that hit for you, in order for you to have the necessary caps you need. The way I see it, for people who don't used the numpad, they save a significant amount of money this way. For people who do use the numpad, they pay more or less the same MOQ price as they did before for a GMK set. No one is taking the fall for another.

I know it's frustrating. Our system is not set up to add people once a buy has concluded. But I'll tell you what. I joined the drop myself and bought a base kit, novelties, pale blue accents, and purple accents. When these keycaps are fulfilled and you still want it, I'll sell you whatever you want out of my own order at group buy pricing.

That's super duper nice of you. 😁 Seriously above and beyond! If policy and technology prevent a good customer experience, then having people like you make up for it. Thank you. However, if you get that UI fixed, that'll be good enough. I'll take my chances on the open market. I'm looking for a new set for my Planck anyway so hopefully I can help somebody else out who changes their mind. Or somehow I'll end up with Laser GMK or DSA (I know SA is coming but I like low profile).

Hi, new to DiY keyboards here. Can someone explain to me what makes these ABS keycaps over $100, compared to backlit PBT keycap sets like the Tai-Hao Paradise set that just dropped? I’m very enticed just by the color scheme alone, and would consider this drop more if I understood the pricing better

InfiniteBlackAceThe keycaps are thicker, manufactured in Germany, and are higher quality in terms of fit and finished when compared to a cheaper set thats produced by Tai-Hao. GMK sets are typically designed by members of the community, rather than mass-produced, so that also contributes to the price tag. Since it's ABS it will shine over time, but its worth it if you appreciate the quality of design these sets have. You don't really get backlighting with these sets, and generally people who are really into the hobby don't really care much about having backlit caps as much as they care about the design. I think backlit caps interest a lot of people at the start (myself included) but then they gravitate more towards keycaps designed with different colorways or themes in mind, and having backlighting typically would work against the overall design. I wanted to touch on this part, mainly because I didn't initially understand why someone would want keycaps without backlighting - I mean how else would I be able to appreciate my Ducky's beautiful RGB backlighting? But I took the plunge, and never looked back. ...why did I type such a long response? I don't know....

dvorcolThanks for posting this! So the number sold displayed on the page is the total number of kits ordered, not the total number of core kits ordered?
JMWZGlad you like the bar graph! I think “Sold” is the number of orders you place. For this drop, one “sold” can be 1 Base kit + 1 child kit, 1 Base kit only, or 1 child kit only. If you want more, you click the “add another order” box, which counts as more “sold.”
