Had this unit for a week about two months ago. I liked it quite a bit. It wasn't mind blowing, but very good for the price. it's very versatile. It sounded very good with: Grado SR225e, Sennheiser HD800, innateck iems, Shure SRH840, Fostex THX00 (in fact I'd call it exceptional for the THX00), HiFiMan HE400i, EMU Walnut, Audeze LCD2, Koss KSC75.
I'd say it's slightly better than the old 4396 Modi, but s little below the Grace m9XX as a DAC (just slightly). Amp is a little bit better than the Magni2U. It's slightly warmer and less harsh than the M2U stack. If I didn't already own a m9XX, I'd have considered it for my office setup.
If anybody has any questions I'll try to answer as best I can from memory and notes.

fjrabonHow does it compare with Mojo?

Tomasz2DA little bit more powerful amp, not quite as good DAC. Mojo was a little bit more detailed and a little bit smoother.

fjrabonI'm looking for an amp or amp+dac to pair with the TH-X00 purplehearts, the M-stage looks great but I didn't expect it would perform well with low impedance phones so to hear otherwise is pretty encouraging. Are there any other amps you think would pair better with these around the same price range as the M-stage?

SomedudemanI thought the m9XX was a little bit better, mostly because the DAC is better on it. The Modi multibit + magni 2 uber might be as well because the Modi multibit is so good.

fjrabonI've got purplehearts, and have a CEntrance DACPort Slim and a Schiit Jotunheim. I'm using the Jotunheim as my desktop solution, pairs well with the PHs, but I don't have experience with other amps. I can say that I did a lot of research, and there are many who thought the PHs and Jotunheim are a great match.
For the money, the DACPort Slim was fantastic. I find very little difference between it and the Jot paired with the PHs. Jot is better, but not by much to my ears. Of course, Jot is more versatile, features, amazing specs, and scales to a broader spectrum of cans.

fjrabonI've been contemplating this amp for awhile- Would you say it runs more warm or hot? I realize its class A operation but its important I keep my environment from much more heat. It looks to have a bit more power than the amps you mentioned- does this pan out in usage or not much more gain than the others?
Thanks for taking a minute

PapathrustIt wasn't noticeably warm to me.
I never tested it with any truly hard to drive headphones, but I certainly never came close to running out of head room.

ToothfixerDo you own one yourself? There aren't that many reviews here & in head-fi that I could find. Do you mind sharing your experience and compare it with other amps/dacs?

trybeingarunI have the HPA-2 but it's similar in design, I believe the only things changed is the DAC and it now has a gain switch. Mine gets super hot. The Matrix HPA-2 was actually recommended to me by one of the engineers at Audeze when I bought my LCD2 w/fazor. He said if I want hard hitting bass with good extension, the Matrix is the one he recommended. Tempted to get the new one but doubt I could tell a difference between the old DAC and new DAC.

trybeingarunLooks like they also moved the cooling vents from the side of the case to the top and added 2 large fins vs many smaller fins.

fjrabon@Toothfixer @fjrabon. This is my first major dac/amp setup (after my current Fiio Q1). I am also new to Hi-Fi equipments as well. I have already bought a K7xx from the recent drop. So i'm considering both Modi/Magni uber stack and M-stage. Sadly there isn't much information available about M-stage floating in the internet which is making me nervous :-( . Any impressions, opinions & suggestions comparing M-stage and M/M-Uber in terms of sound quality, build quality, flexibility, longevity would be of great help
