Product Description
Inspired by the traditional Japanese katana, this tanto-point folder excels in piercing tasks thanks to its semi-curved shape and tapered point. Its 3.25-inch blade is made from San Mai-clad VG-10, which offers excellent edge retention and corrosion resistance Read More
HowAmIThe knife is very very sharp and well with a few of my work pants the wave feature would either not work at all or partially open. And well i didnt think about it expected the blade to be fully open and grazed my fingers on the blade
All the discussion about tip up vs tip down. It's not rocket science people, it's personal preference. Personally, I like tip down for thumb stud knives because my thumb is on the stud when I draw the knife. I like tip down for flippers because my finger is in the flipper when I draw the knife. But I also like variety, so can deal with an alternate configuration of the overall product is nice.
Newsflash, we don't care if you can't drive standard/automatic, handle a gun with single action/double action/safety, Like automatic/quartz watches, etc. This is a website for enthusiasts; each person knows what they like, and it probably isn't he same as what you like. So keep your hostilely phrased opinions to yourself and try to be a decent human.
Not at all; you did indeed phrase it as a question, and it's fundamentally the same question I was asking, really.
I got to extolling the virtues of Mcusta steel in my usual style of using ten words where three will do, and didnt make clear what I should have, this being Internet: I wasnt asking you had an example of weak VG10 as a way of calling BS on that claim (which, as you say, you didnt actually make). I apologize if it sounded that way. I was and am genuinely interested, because for as pervasive as is the idea of VG10 being a brittle blade steel, I have yet to find anyone who has actually had the problem...
...or anyone who has LEGITIMATELY had the problem, you could say. I've spoken with two people who said they had a VG10 blade break, but their stories were almost identical, and to paraphrase, basically went: "well...I probably shouldn't have been using the tip of the blade to try to loosen a rusted carriage bolt, but everybody says how great Spyderco knives are, so I just figured it would be ok to jam the tip of my Delica's blade into that rusty groove and hit it with a hammer again and again.
Me: "Unbelievable."
They: "I know, right? You'd think a knife that cost $75 would be tougher than to break just doing THAT."
This thing is sharp. Sharper than my Kershaw Skyline.
However, I'm disappointed with with Quality. The blade itself has a lot of machine lines/marks and discoloration. Part of it is light grey and part is dark grey.
And if we're getting picky, the color grooves are noticeably longer/wider on one side and quite a bit smaller on the other.
I kind of thought with Mcusta I would be getting a top notch product but my $30 Kershaw blade was in much better condition new and it didn't have any defects and inconsistencies like the Mcusta.
That "black line" on your knife is a convex handle mainly to assure a no slip grip it's a beautiful knife but go for the cold steel tanto that thing can bend (without breaking) at basically a 90 degree angle plus I've seen one them support a car hanging in the air by two chains on the handle (handle rivet came loose 1 piece out of whole blade and the handle was the only thing that broke) this knife while looking nice is a folder styled combat knife that's not really for combat but with the blade designed the way it is it makes sense it could have been designed to tear and rip at flesh that being said its a folder.... Get one trusted folder to last years and then get fixed blade knives for all of your outdoors needs because folding knives for the most part are a survival tool. Fixed blades are all in their own classification. (You really want a mechanism to break in the blade lock and fuck up your hand?)
MaxwellDemonicWell I am sure if you just want the material for cheaper then you could go to just about any hardware store and get it there. however you will prob have a hard time turning it into a knife. Your obviously not paying for just the material. Your paying for the labor to turn it into a blade, the anodizing process of the handle, the other matierials in the pivot and so on. Not quite accurate to complain about the price and material.
Hello. In June when i saw this knife on massdrop i decided to get it. I am sort of a collector and user :)
I had a small knife collection and this was going to be my first "high end" folding knife since my most expensive one before that was a Spyderco tenacious. The knife arrived and i guess you could say i was in the "honeymoon" period for quite some time, so I didn't really care about the fact that it had machining marks or that it had the weakest detent i had ever felt. A couple of months later I took the knife apart and i found out that either the detent ball or the detent hole on the blade is misplaced so it has almost no detent. Now that i think back at it it is very disappointing that I paid over 100 bucks for a knife that I expected to have a much better fit and finish than my Tenacious, but clearly wasn't the case. After looking at the knife now, i have no idea how it even passed the quality control because this is a knife that shouldn't have left the factory. Do Mcusta have a homepage or email i can write to them on?
Sorry for ranting, but in my opinion this is not acceptable for a knife that costs more than 100 bucks.
I've had mine for a few weeks now. I actually haven't used it for my daily EDC like I was planning. Overall it's a nice knife but the finish was dinged in a couple of spots, the pivot screw looked a little chewed up, and the opening action is hard to get fully opened on 1 flick. I adjusted the pivot to loosen it but it puts the blade off centre and close to the edge. The blade is beautiful and super sharp but very thin. I worry that even simple tasks would scratch the crap out of it. I won't buy another one and I don't know if I would recommend it. For the money, Massdrop has better options.
Hi Jonas,
Thank you very much for touching base with me on this. This knife has been sitting in my case and everyti I see it, I'm disappointed. If I can return it for a refund or credit for other Massdrop products, I would really appreciate that. Please let me know what I need to do and say for the support ticket and I will get the process rolling.
Regards
Scott Wallace
Received mine today.. Lovely blade, sharp as a razor and feels great in the hand. Blade is a bit 'stiff' but nothing I can't overcome with some use and lube. Pic below does NOT do it any justice but had to post the sauce. Thanks again MassDrop!

tacomanHey @tacoman -- We're not aware of any differences in the blades between the different finishes. The photos on the Description show the top of the blade to be flat on the black/green, just like the other three. Here's a photo from the vendor that shows the same:
