Constructed with a stainless steel case, sapphire crystal, and a screw-down crown, the Voyager II Automatic is water resistant to 200 meters. But while its specs are worthy of any good diver, it doesn’t sacrifice in looks, either Read More

And special congratulations to YuukiMagic, who evidently placed an order for the watch 48 minutes before I even received the email announcing it! I was actually on the site looking for the new drops this AM (none had yet been posted) when I received todays email announcing this watch. I immediately clicked the link in that email to see the drop, yet as soon as the page loaded, the watch had already vanished!

The take aways to this story: A) Pretty obvious now that when it comes to one-watch-drops, timezones EARLIER than San Francisco have a distinct advantage over timezones equal to, or LATER than San Fransisco. B) MD sucks the big one.

You didn’t need backup, I was just agreeing with you. I don’t recall the occasion either but l piss off a lot of folks around here—sometimes over “watch nonsense” and sometimes over more relevant issues (as above), so your recollection is not beyond the realm. As for @JAone, he’s not as awful as he sounds—needs a lot of work, but I wouldn’t cast him as entirely irredeemable.

Thanks Ray, what term then? Where I am they use the term, caucasian or white. And indigenous or person of color. I don't get all the upset as it is not meant with any malice.

Nice watch. But tell Massdrop to state the 'weight' of the watch in the specs. The weight of a watch is very important. I collect watches, and I found after much experience that any watch weighing more than 140gms is simply too heavy!
Therefore if Massdrop doesn't bother to list the weight in the specs, I won't buy. If they list the weight, I'm more likely to buy these watches.
And tell the Mercer watch company that an automatic movement with 80 hours reserve is much better, and higher vibration-per-minute rating is also better, and 28 jewels is better.
And if they really care about quality, 316L surgical-grade stainless steel is the only way to go.

MbotWeight is a good spec to include.
There are very few movements that have 80 hour power reserves and none at this price point. The cheapest are the modified ETAs in Tissots and Certinas and they accomplish this in part by reducing the vibrations per minute. An 80 hour power reserve with higher vibrations is only contained in much more expensive watches.
More jewels = better movement is simply untrue.

Mbotan 80 hour reserve is a modified ETA movement which would raise the price by at least $100. it also beats at the same rate, so no aesthetic improvement for the $100 more.

Day/Date NH36 movement in a watch with no day or date complication. Why not just put an NH35 in it?

I had pre-ordered this watch from Mercer and received it earlier this summer. With a discount I paid just over $300. I have the blue/stainless band model. It is really attractive as a business casual/dress watch, the blue is striking, and is thin enough to wear with a dress shirt. Shows at the cuff to get your attention. No complaints, good performance, but I don't use it as a true dive watch. Wish I'd waited for the drop of course, nice value at $249 IMHO.

I took a plunge and joined the drop. The watch just came today and it turns out it's really nice. The blue dial is stunning. The bezel is firm and no vertical / horizontal play. Overall the quality is much better than voyager 1, which I also had it before.

littlequillGlad to hear you like it and the quality is improved from the earlier version. Wear it well & enjoy! I get quite alot of use out of mine and hope the same for you.
We are the first to admit that the first generation Voyager was not up to snuff - that's why we thought there had to be a version II to address a few issues. If you are an unhappy owner of the V1, shoot us an email at info@mercerwatch.com

Is that actually an ar coated double domed crystal? It looks flat on pictures. Ar coating is on inner or outer surface?
KakalukyaIt’s domed - coated on the inside.

I have the Mercer Voyager I in red; I have to say, it has a lot of issues and is one of the most disappointing watches I own. Nevertheless, judging from the comments of people who got the Voyager II, it seems Mercer ironed out the kinks from the previous model so I may join the drop this time. But how is the lume on this watch? I'm not expecting something as bright as a Seiko diver, but the lume on the Voyager I was laughable.

The Voyager I was one of the first watches I ever bought; it looked good on paper, but as soon as you hold it it's easy to get a sense of the low quality. The lume is very weak. The bezel has nothing to grip and is difficult to turn and has the worst bezel play I've seen, I can move the bezel clockwise almost a full stop. The bezel pip is long gone, having been knocked out somehow despite me wearing the watch only a handful of times. The date window is more of a date cutout on the dial, there's no border on the window and the font used for the date wheel just clashes with the rest of the printing on the dial. There are other small details here and there; it wasn't all bad, I did like the stamped caseback with the sailing ship design, but on the whole I wouldn't recommend the Voyager I to anybody, even for the $300 I paid for it.

vhpguyI've bought the Voyager II last summer. The overall quality of the watch is very good. As for the lume, it's OK (but far from excellent) on hands and on bezel's triangle, but quite poor on other bezel marks and on the dial.

First of all why is an "American classic" use Japanese movement!? Second seems like the case and bezel is exact copy of Breitling,s Superocean II, especially the blue! Not to mention the bootlet bracelet! I bet the bezel is not ceramic…

KamikazinycSure do. Mercedes are pieces of overpriced crap who sell a badge and rely on previous brand loyalty and quality. Hyundai don’t pretend to be anything else, have reasonable servicing costs and a 5 year warranty And offer an excellent product.

Ten minutes in, says "sold through". Did anyone see it for sale or is this a computer error. If so I am starting to find it hard to be benevolent to the marketing staff; if they have only a few or even one item,it would make people more understanding if they would just say so when the Drop is announced.

Ordinarily I would say yes they did; pure "Bait" marketing ploy. Very old fashioned ,but still effective: however the "Drop" shop is not like other watch/jewellery site which offers a wide substitute selection should the item you seek not be available. I have had 7 excellent purchases from Drop in the last year, excellent prices and quality product and very good customer support: but I must agree with other community members when a product is sold through in minutes, a "heads up" of the reduced amount of product for sale would be a more professional approach to the customer base. I have been on both sides of this situation after being in sales and marketing for over 20 years of my 45 year working life; and I have seen sales and marketing techniques come around from the old "smoke and mirrors" to the very simple yet successful "honesty" approach. "Bait" marketing is just so 80's!!
