This is stupidly overpriced for a second rate brand. You can regularly find 256gb drives from from reputable brands like samsung on sale for much less than this drive. If you are paying anything more than $60 for a 256 drive and it's not something like an EVO, you are getting jipped.
ArdaisI just don't see how Micron selling under other brands makes it second rate. Yeah, normally there is a crucial label on an SSD, but label or not the memory is still the same high quality stuff. Also, if you do a quick search online you'll see that most 256GB SSDs in this form factor are between $75-100. And Samsung 256GB SSDs are selling for $65 if they are REFURBISHED. So yeah, you're wrong. You could certainly find better deals than this, but it's still a pretty decent deal.
tyler256Maybe it's the terminology I am using.I am not necessarily saying that Micron are BAD drives, I am saying that they aren't the brands that people are going to want to buy normally, because others are better at marketing. People will want to buy brands they trust. If you gave me a crucial vs micron, I would buy the Crucial because I've bought them in the past and know they are quality (even though they are made by the same company.
And I watch deals on SSDs a LOT and they constantly go below $80 for 250gb. There is a Team Group L5 240gb SSD right now fro $55. Frys just had a 250GB 860 mSata drive for $84. You can get a WD blue 250gb drive for $74 and that's WITHOUT the promo code that was just active a day ago which dropped it down to $64 with free shipping.
Anyone who watches deals on this type of stuff could see this isn't a good deal, and I really don't understand why you are trying to defend Massdrop when you can get it cheaper somewhere else. I don't even know why they put this thing on Massdrop in the first place.
ArdaisWhy are you saying that this is a second rate brand? Micron products are normally marketed as Crucial. This is one is a solid brand. This particular model offers encryption and 3D NAND technology, similar what Samsung PRO offers.
