Yet again another item that is the same price or cheaper elsewhere with superior shipping options. I'm done looking at anything on Massdrop. This site is a joke.
DrexlDon't discount the whole site yet. There are still plenty of good deals, and more importantly, exclusive items such as knives and headphones you can't get elsewhere.
I disagree. If you want slow low functioning for office apps then sure. If you buy this you will be dissapointed. I sold and used these things for years. It's not even worth the money for what you get.
CFGXThanks! That's the best part of this drop for me. I've had a 128GB/4GB RAM model since launch day and those cost a fortune when I got mine. Ordered it from Amazon yesterday and got the dock today. Now I've got a second full speed charger, a bunch more ports, and ethernet again. Bargain at $27.
Want this exact item but much cheaper and a much faster delivery? Newegg has it listed cheaper for refurbished which is probably what this item drop will end up being anyway. So here you go. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4X75MH8553
If you commit to the drop you are only agreeing to purchase the unit if the final drop point is reached. If you join the drop and the final drop point is not reached then you will pay the higher $329.99 price. However, if you join the drop and the final price is unlocked then you will pay the lower price.
The choice is up to you but I would encourage everyone who is interested in any products on Massdrop to either join the drop or commit to the drop. Do not sit around and wait and see if the drop is successful before joining. This just might cause the drop to be unsuccessful as so many people are just waiting for it to unlock the final drop point that it never reaches it.
Cheers.
It seems that they are basing their prices off the original release MSRP. I understand how this is the most objective way for massdrop to price items; but it is also misleading to buyers because it advertises a higher price differential than the product actually has. Massdrop is also a third party seller, so it makes more sense to compare their prices to other third parties, rather than Microsoft's original MSRP. While MD is not expressly presenting the value of the product at $600, listing the (now old) product's MSRP below the "new" price, seems dishonest.
I am simply making this post to let people know that they aren't really saving money buying this from massdrop, contrary to what they might have been led to believe.
collinp1024Oh I completely agree with that last statement. I don't think MD saves people money. There are many better and cheaper options out there than MD.
I was just stating that MD compares their prices to the major retailers, not other third-parties. The reason is because Microsoft usually does not and cannot track all of the pricing from the many many smaller third-parties since they usually do not even have to answer to Microsoft. However, Microsoft (and any other brand name manufacturer) does in fact limit and set the lowest possible price major retailers can set (hence the $599 MSRP if you were to set foot in Best Buy or Staples and Amazon since they fall under major retailer). The larger major retailers would probably have some sort of breach of contract and be penalized if they dropped that price below the $599 MSRP.
That being said, MD will only compare its prices to those of the major retailers. Disappointing, I know, but that's how MD runs itself (probably because consistently finding the CHEAPEST price online is impossible, since any store can easily change their price almost in the click of a button nowadays). MD does not ever claim to have the lowest of all prices either.
I oftentimes first look elsewhere when I see something attractive on MD. The things I find that MD does well tend to be their MD-only exclusives.
