Product Description
Sporting an unconventional design similar to the VE.A keyboard, the split Mistel Barocco MD600 mechanical keyboard was created to improve ergonomics and reduce discomfort. Split down the middle, as if an earthquake ripped it in two, the Barocco MD600 allows you to place each half wherever you want: Leave them together for a more traditional look, or spread them out to take some pressure off of your wrists and elbows Read More
This is 95% perfect, but I can't bring myself to buy it if it uses mini-USB. It really needs to be USB-C and Bluetooth would be great too. I think micro-USB at a minimum, as I don't want to carry around a mini cable just for this. I really want an ergo 60%, but for now I guess I'll stick with my Anne Pro. Hoping the next iteration they update the connectors!
Actually, my primary argument is that nearly all USB keyboards that aren't hardwired have had a USB-mini port, and as I have seen no compelling argument for using any other USB port on a keyboard, and many people have specially routed cables extant, the most readonable port for new keyboards being marketed to keyboard enthusiasts would stick with the same port: USB-mini.
UPDATE: I'm back on the project. Just got my setup more or less together, though I seem to have misplaced a few items in the shuffle. Here's a peek at what I'm working on!
Thank you! I cut/pasted together a model from full length SA spacebars, filled and buffed out the join lines and made a silicone mold of that, which I then resin cast into what you see here.
I'm still trying to get the process consistent enough to sell them, but work has demanded most of my time lately..
MTK4355I would be interested in getting one if you figure out a way for production/distribution. I do love my Barocco, but being able to switch out caps would be really cool. I have the Industrial SA caps from pimpmykeyboard on my Poker II at home. Really unique feeling to them. This of course lead me to gaze longingly at other keycaps for my work board, the aforementioned Barocco.
UPDATE: my first pair of functional SA spacebars have been cast, fitted and deployed. They will see first production use Monday morning! These are a little too white for the keycap set, but I didnt try to color match at all, this was purely to test fit and feel.
Durability is up next...Mondays generally require lots of spaces. :)
The vacuum table I built worked very well to address the issues I encountered with air bubbles being trapped in the molds and resin castings. I got as far as making a new master set of spacebars, a flawless pair of molds, and I had just started experimenting with various pigment/ resin product combinations and ratios feel out my capacity for colour matching when the aforementioned troubles in my personal life forced me out of my home, and (unfortunately) the project into storage for a time.
nminarwhen youre quite finished i would love to get back to how awesome and amazing the RGB lighting is on the md600 mechanical keyboard. you'll feel like your back in high school, tripping acid in the library while your supposed to be writing your book report on... what is it morons write book reports on again? oh yes, they write book reports on a mistril barocco split keyboard. the choice is clear! for fast ergonomic typing whilst on the short buss, or in your mums bashment fitting your toes into your toe socks.
Nah, I probably could have, but for me the more-obvious, more-graceful, less-effort solution was just getting a second set of VESA mount arms for the kb halves. Excessive, yes; perfect, also yes.
So, a total of four VESA pole-mount arms from Amazon (one per stick, one per kb half) combined with any desk with at least two hefty front legs and ANY chair. Position the VESA arms so everything’s within easy reach while sitting back, and you’ll be transported instantly to the comfort zone.

YOU MADE IT HAPPEN!

I own one. Save your money. If the firmware were open they might be worth it but it isn't. They are not very configurable and the default layer cannot be configured at all. The keyboard is extremely limited on where the Fn, Menu, Ctrl keys can be remapped. Mine is sitting next to my monitors mocking me for the bad purchase. I was greatly disappointed in this keyboard.
SamWattersI'm still using it and it much better than normal 60% like poker or anything else because I map one of the spacebar as fn. The latest firmware gave a lot more flexibility. Here is the change log :
Fn layer is now remappable & Fn key can be assigned to the Capslock key.
Few keys are still not remappable on the Fn layer due to specific functions:T/G/B/Default/Layer 1/Layer 2/Layer 3/Pn/Right Ctrl
The only downside of this is the fact they use non standard 3u & 3.25u stab location, so pretty much you can't change the spacebar except with another md600.
SamWattersEmail them - it's HIGHLY likely you're on old firmware.
I have a pair of the non-RGB version of the keyboard, had emailed them back and forth numerous times when it had first come out, and they responded with numerous firmware updates, opening up the ability to map pretty much any key. You can find the latest GA firmware on their site, and they occasionally have beta firmware available which needs to be requested via email.
Did the keyboards from the previous drop ever go out? I got tired of waiting and pulled out of the last one, but there's no comments here about anyone receiving it. Usually someone will say something about whether or not they like it.
That_One_GuyThey literally shipped yesterday. Now the drop is back up (with free shipping this time around) & I'm none too happy with that. They were delayed like 3 times & now they'll be arriving over a month late (just in time to miss this weekend's keyboard meetup). Hell I even emailed massdrop & offered to pay for upgraded shipping so they'd make it in time, but 'that's not something they do right now'.
If anyone from MD sees this, I completely understand that stuff happens & things get delayed, but having no recourse when that does happen is pretty unacceptable. At least offer a shipping refund or upgrade or something. I ordered two units, that's a pretty good chunk of change to be spending here & for that I'd expect slightly better from you guys.
saab__gobblerNeed more feedback like yours.
Hopefully the potential buyers are aware of the multiple delays. I also hope the awaiting shipments do not have QA issues.
Sorry for your situation but good luck with the new boards!
