i found a comment in reply to an amazon review from april 2015 that said this worked well on a RasPi using MyPaint for linux (as far as it could on such low power hardware anyway) and required no extra setup. they said some of their issues on windows weren't issues on the Pi so it seems linux support for this is actually there and decent.
i may be the only one here who actually cares about that but in the chance that there's another linux user interested i figured i would post this since i've let this drop pass a few times since i first left a post asking about it's linux support to get no replies and i never had any luck when searching for any information about how well it works in linux.

DaedalJSThere are at last two of us who care.
They list Linux compatibility, so I'm assuming they don't use a weird driver. If that's the case, it should be fine in the Gimp, Mypaint, etc. that use standard pressure sensitivity interfaces.
I think the main reason why you never hear about compatibility is that touchscreen support under Linux is mostly used by people with Chrome books and other weird devices. Expensive graphic design devices tend to be bought by graphic designers, who as a rule tend to be allergic to awful desktop environments, or, if forced, will muddle through with Windows.

j.a.lif only stating Linux support meant they didn't use a weird driver. i've seen too many reviews of people jumping through hoops and had to jump through a few of my own to take that at face value. the way it just seemed to work in raspbian for that reviewer indicates they don't use weird drivers though. so i'm willing to take a chance on it based on that.
i'm not sure i'd say OSX wasn't an awful DE so much as just a better looking one... according to some. looks don't make it a joy to use though, it's a lot of little conveniences and personal preferences that'll do that. unfortunately for me my personal DE preference was recently (hopefully temporarily) nixed by my purchase of an RX 480.
