Excellently Tuned. For fans of Harman Tuning
Excellent implementation of diamond like carbon (DLC) dynamic drivers. I can see a lot of people liking the Moondrop Kanas Pro (KPE) as it is amazing for mainstream and electronic music so genres that are perfect are: EDM, R&B, Pop and Rap. The frequency response is slight U-Shaped. The DLC drivers work well with heightened bass which makes drums feel impactful. The bass of FLAC format music really comes out as you can feel the displacement of air from the bass. The zinc aluminium alloy along with a slight bump in treble allows instruments to come out with excellent clarity. Vocals are clear and have decent timbre but male vocals are slightly recessed while female vocals sound pretty good. Overall the Kanas Pro is a must have if you listen to mainstream music, love the sound of drums or have balanced armature IEMs and are looking for a good dynamic driver alternative. The big bore size gives it a bigger soundstage, but it may not fit properly on some ears. The included ear tips are terrible and I recommend using Spinfit CP145, JVC Spiral Dots or Final E Tips.

WHO23That’s what I had to use for tips (Spiral Dots). Nothing else fit correctly, the long nozzle doesn’t have much lip, so tips tend to slide too far down. I’d say that’s one of my few qualms. Spiral Dots fit great.

IEMagnetThe newly released Moondrop KXXS fixed the tip issue. A solution I found on Head-Fi for the Kanas Pro is to use a small rubber band to prop the tips further forward.

One of the best value IEMs I've heard in the $150 dollar range - last being the MEE P1 from couple years ago. There are already a couple of reviews out there that well describe the sound quality of these earphones, but if I were to sum it up in a sentence, I'd say that they are fairly well balanced, with an emphasis on the mids, plus good tight sub-bass extensions (and lack of a mid bass bump which I love). Trebles are a bit subdued, but I think that's a good thing on these. I'll try my best to compare them to couple other IEMs I own that are also offered by Massdrop. Please do note that sound is very subjective and the following comparisons are uniquely my own. I own the Shanling M0, Samsung S9, Audio-GD Master Amp/Dac, and Opus #1 BGVP DM6: The DM6 has a much better fit for me. The Kana Pros feel a bit more intimate and more organic with their mids. Separation is similiar between the two, but extension is better on the DM6. Orchestra instruments definitely sound better on the DM6. Sub-bass is lower on the Kana Pros, while the DM6 has a slight bass bump. Purely sound wise, the Kana Pros win, but the because the fit is way better on the DM6 I will be keeping both of them. Massdrop MEE Planamic: Kana Pros is better in every single way besides fit (subjective) and bass. The planamic is the biggest waste of money at $150 and almost any other IEM you could purchase in this price point will be better than it, including the Kana Pros. MEE P1: Treble on the P1 is remarkable, and its fit is the best I've had on any IEM I've ever owned (30+). Unfortunately, both the DM6 and the Kana Pros are better at everything else, especially the mids and the bass. If you're heavily into music with lot of beats (EDM), then these may be better for you than the Kana Pros. Shure 846s: I purchased these used for $525 couple of years ago at head-fi. Shures are obviously slightly better with their fluid mids, but I prefer the bass on the Kana Pros. If my budget was $200 dollars, I would not try to save another $300 dollars to purchase the Shures. If my IEM budget was $500 dollars, I'd still buy the Kana Pros and buy 3 more earphones instead.

I feel the mid-highs are better on the Kanas, but the treble is not harsh on either of them. I do feel that the DM6 are less fatiguing than the Kanas overall, as well as the better fit, so if you want something to listen on the longer period, that may be the better choice for you.

The treble is VERY controlled on the Kanas. No harshness whatsoever. The polite treble is something that takes away from timbre and resolution, but not too much. It’s a very detailed and pleasant listen.

I love almost everything about these IEMs. They sound great, even when using my LG G7, and don't need to be turned up all the way to hear them on the train. Also, the polished finish is spectacular and the shape agrees with my ears, with no rough or sharp edges, they can be worn for hours on end. EDIT Note on the sound - I was standing in a tiled train station listening "Great Ones" by Maren Morris with these IEMs and the sound was was so realistic I could have sworn it was playing through loud speakers filling the space. I got goosebumps. /EDIT The downside is they come with lots of tips, one pair is large and the rest are mediums (they might be smalls on some other IEMs but Moondrop IEM outlet is so large, it adds size to the tips). None of them fit my ears. The cable material and cable ear ends are great but the cable union is clunky and the jack seems garage DIY. There is also no included inline microphone cable option. This was fixed by purchasing some small SpinFit CP145 tips and a different cable off Amazon (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NVCV9HY) making these even more expensive than they already are. EDIT Almost forgot, the little bag that comes with this hardly fit the cable and IEMs, making it annoying to use. I've been using an old Sure case for mine. Bottom line for me, this was like buying just the IEMs that needed the cable, tips and a case. /EDIT

Quality Construction and Smooth Performance: Shares some characteristics with the Focal Elex Overall: I bought the Kanas Pro (KP) based on positive reviews from people who share my taste, and because they seemed to be constructed like the Focal Elex. Both the Elex and KP use a single stiff dynamic driver and heavyweight physical construction. The Elex (and Elear) are widely known as a precise dynamic monsters -- soft notes are soft and loud notes are very very loud. Some do not like this, but it can be managed and I personally like it when it is managed (see below on how). Out of Box:
  1. KP come with a nice copper single-ended cable pre-installed. Easy to get going.
  2. The factory storage bag is tiny and cheap feeling. I put it back in the box and used my own case.
  3. Mine had the smallest silicone tips installed (really small), I swapped them for medium and then large. None of them fit well. Medium leaked and had uneven bass response, while large fit well but had flabby, drum-like bass. [I find bass flab to be common with large silicone tips.]
  4. The KP generate a typical dynamic driver response profile, which is well integrated but tends to lose precision in certain ranges. As I expected from the Elex, the KP have a mid-high range intensity or glare. This is akin to brightness but hits lower in the audio spectrum and can be overwhelming.
  5. The bass is deep but always a bit soft and boomy.
Tip and Cable Swapping:
  1. My standard replacement tips are New Bee foam (Amazon.com and very cheap). They seal well in my ears (mediums for longer IEM shafts; large for shorter IEM shafts), and generate very consistent bass. The New Bees cured the KPs bass inconsistency, but revealed the lack of resolution and general softness in mid and low range details. The high range was always pretty clear.
  2. I've had a copper balanced IEM cable for some time, but found that it added little or no value to any of my BA or hybrid IEMs. In buying the KP, I speculated that balanced would have more value with the stiff dynamic drivers. And yes, the cable matters! With foam tips the KPs became WAY TOO bassy. Returning to the medium factory silicone tips and the balanced cable with my FiiO Q5, the KPs are a junior edition of the Focal Elex. The mid-high intensity is controlled, the bass is deep and cleaner, and they are as non-fatiguing as anything I own. The KP is not an Elex, but has integrated dynamic presentation, tight imaging, enjoyable tone, and is technically competent.

Burn these in before listening!
When I first opened these and gave them a listen, they sounded like I imagined. Then I burned these in for 100hrs like and I was amazed to what I came back to after a week. After burn in, these are the sweetest and smoothest iem's to have. They sound like Winnie the Pooh in his room of glowing honey. From rap to pop to metal, they just kick ass. Definitely worth saving up some money and brown bagging lunch for 2 weeks.

Outstanding IEMs! I have Dekoni Bulletz Gemini eartips on them. Love the included cable. The bass is clean and pure, and I can feel some rumble in my ears. The trebles are non-fatiguing and crystalline. Perfect for Mahler's Symphony No. 5 or Stravinsky's Rite of Spring.

This iem seems to have good reviews, but I wonder if it really it's the same model I got. Now don't get me wrong, it sounds ok, it's bright but not sibillant, though sometimes it's kind of annoying. Mids are ok, they are lackluster but have enough clarity, what really bothers me is tha lack of bass, and I'm not a basshead, I'm even complaining about too much bass on my Meze Noir review. This iem it's really anemic on lows. I'm using the biggest tips included, I tried some others I have and the bass never got a decent level, this is not neutral bass, it's plain recessed almost nonexisting. This coming from someone who thinks the HD600 has enough low end. I'll see if this gets better with some other tips or with (mental) burning, and if that's the case, I'll change my evaluation, but so far I'm disappointed.

FenrizI have read in several discussions, both here and on Head-Fi, that 100 hours of burn in is recommended for these. Mine have been playing 24x7 since they got delivered on Tuesday. The only listening I did was to ensure they both worked and that the volume wasn't too loud. I also tend to get much better results from foam tips, so I purchased some New Bee tips from Amazon and joined the Dekoni Bulletz drop on here. I plan to swap tips and give them a listen for the first time this weekend.

FenrizBuy New Bee foam tips (size large) from Amazon. They are truly large and will bring the bass up to its potential. I find the Kanas Pro does better on a balanced cable too -- seems to require solid current delivery.

Never thought a pair of IEMs could bring me so much joy. Coming from recent KZs and the Tin T3, the KP has been a absolute improvement. I don't really have any complaints other than packaging and accessories. No syballence, more than enough clarity/staging/imaging, clear and extended bass. I listen to tons of genres and the KP works great across the board. I can listen to these all day where as T3s give me fatigue after 2-3 hours. (Classical, rock, hip hop/rap, country, electropop, Dubstep, Drum&bass, progressive, indie, jazz, rnb, folk) Using tips from T3 or New Bee. If I had to describe these in one word: FUN!!! Very curious how these will compare to ZS10 Pros that are coming soon. I don't expect KP to lose to these but the added drivers and improvements from previous KZ models would make an interesting comparison to the Tin T3s.
