I did a lot a research before I decided to buy these knives, but the main reason I pulled the trigger was quality and cost. I was leaning toward the Companion, but the 511s have a rabid following that is akin to cult classic movies, and the defining aspect of the loyalty to these "throw away" blades is the fact that their size makes them more nimble in the hand. Cut rope, fruit, veg, boxes, pencils, whittle, whatever - the smaller blade is easier to manipulate and the finger guard is a god send. I guess across the pond they just abuse the crud out of these knives as a utility blade and when they get too banged up, toss 'em and get another. I saw another useful attribute for this great drop that kind of follows their original intent - I can use them to learn how to sharpen a blade before I go to one of my expensive knives, like my Opinel. (If you didn't get that joke, look up Opinels. I'm not a blade snob; I prefer function over foppery. I could never own a knife that costs more than $30 in all good conscience. I use my stuff too much) A good knife with great quality that you can use and abuse without feeling bad about. What's not to love. As for the fit and finish, looks good to me. One was perfect (my black on black) and my wife's black and tan had a few marks where the finishing solution may have pooled and striped a little, but it buffed right off. The sharpness was very good, but hers had a slight burr. So, watching a movie, I stropped it on my denim pant leg about 25 times per side in 5 pull increments and it became a bloody razor! These knives really seem to appreciate a good stropping on a regular basis, and really, who doesn't? The plastic sheath is great, just the right size to not jam into your hip, holds the blade very secure but she pops right into service when needed. I slap my hip all the time at work trying to grab it, but I don't wear it while in the plant, so it just looks like I'm playing giddy up with myself. I'd like to do the whole paracord wrap with fire steel and such and grind the spines of the blades one day. All in all, I couldn't be happier. Plus, it's a very legal carry blade as it's not too long, but it sure gets people's attention that it's there. Weird world we live in, folks are scared of their own shadow anymore, so a person with a knife or sidearm showing gets a bit of a berth. Silly. But, in a pinch, anything is handy. Take care and God bless. Peace!

I honestly don't understand how they make such an excellent product for so cheap! On a recent extended camping trip with several other (more expensive) knifes, this quickly became my EDC. This is a simple, no nonsense, solidly built piece of equipment. The blade quality and out-of-the-box hone are excellent, the handle fits hands of all sizes comfortably, and the scabbard has good retention. The one criticism I would offer is that the scabbard covers a lot of the handle, which makes drawing the blade a little awkward.

I purchased these specifically for the high carbon blades, I wanted a no nonsense hunting knife. I appreciated the Orange color option. That said the finishing on the spine of the blade leaves a lot to be desired. To say the spine of the two knives i received are rough would be an understatement. Since these knives will undoubtedly come in content with blood getting them clean is of the utmost importance so they do not become etched or harbor bacteria. Rather then a quick wipe down with soup and water, these knives will require a lot more effort to get this done. which is disappointing. I imagine i will have to grind the spines flat and then polish them. The quality of the knife over all is excellent, keep up with the upkeep make sure it doesn't oxidize and make sure you get it clean and it's an excellent useful knife.

It's a fantastic fixed blade, especially for the price. I love the sheath because you can fix it to your buttons on your shirt or jacket when working, giving it another carry option that works well for me. The sheath works a lot better with larger sewn on buttons than the smaller more common variety. You don't have to worry about the blade or handle breaking, unless from improper use as this blade works best for cutting and whittling among some very light bush craft activities. Don't forget to coat your blade, very lightly, with blade oil. This is can and will rust eventually, especially in humid environments.
Overall great price and performance in a blade you can use everyday, low maintenance if you know how to sharpen or strop a blade properly.

Great knives especially for the price
Great knives. Ignore comments about the spine and handle. Yes the spine is not polished, doesn't matter. Yes the handle is plastic, its a good profile with fine grip and easy to clean. Knives are working sharp out of the box. Blade profile is very functional, size is good for general purpose hunting/fishing, maybe a little small for heavy work, I will keep carrying the companion model for deer hunting. Mora make great knives, they are cheap but punch way above their price tag.

I really Like the Mora line. Great blade for the price. Outstanding craftsmanship overall. I wouldn't use it to chop a tree down or in bushcraft situations but yet very solid for what it it. Strong utility knife that holds an edge and never worry about breaking it Come on, it was 11 bucks for 2. Let the good times roll.

Simple, effective, and very durable - these MoraKnives are starting to pile up at my place.
If you appreciate knives as effective tools (rather than a lifestyle 'statement' or some weird EDC ego-boost) you can't go wrong with Mora. I own a number of different Mora knives right now, and I appreciate the Basic 511 for the grip-y handle, and handle tangs to keep my fingers in place during heavy work or with gloves. 10/10 would buy again - as soon as I can wear out the ones I already have...

This is an affordable and handy knife. Not an exceptional knife, but a good value.
It has a carbon blade, which means it is easy to sharpen. It is handy to toss in a tool box, tackle box, glove compartment or BOB. An inexpensive knife. Not an heirloom. Just a good value.

You Gotta love the Mora
I was pleased with my purchase in regards to the product but was disappointed to find that Drop sent me 2 different color knives, I believe I paid extra for the black with brown trim and received one of those and one black with green, as I said no big deal if it hadn't been for you up charging on the color selection I only received one of. get it together please.
