Can anyone comment on if the footprint is necessary/worthwhile for this tent?

bellowthecatMy general opinion regarding any tent with a floor is that a footprint will extend the tent life and is worthwhile for that reason. That said, I have yet to see a manufacturer's footprint that I felt was worth the price. I always keep a roll of 6 mil plastic around purchased from a home improvement store. Easy to cut a new footprint out of that when my old one needs replacing, and pretty cheap. I often see special buy prices on 6'x8' blue poly tarps too, probably no heavier than this tent's footprint and pretty close in size at probably a third or less the cost.

bellowthecatFor twenty quid it seems prudent. I added it to my order.

bellowthecatI personally am adamant about using a footprint under my tents. Did ya know ants secrete an acid as rhey go on their merry way? That ans every thing else i wpuld rather not have in direct frequent contact with my tent. Protects against all manor of sharp pokey things too. I get tyvek and cut it to size. It has to be an inch or so smaller on all sides compared to tent floors size. Easy and inexpensive with tyvek. Fairly light, lasts a good amour of time. The tyvek also serves many a thru hiker as a sign-you have 4 sides. Hiker to town, hiker to trail, etc for getting a ride. Multi purpose.

bellowthecatJust noticing this drop now and have had this tent in the past. I know this question is old but still applies to anyone new. Yes the footprint is pretty much necessary for a couple of reasons. 1st: It greatly protects the tents bottom, the tent overall will last longer making it a better value in the long run, 2nd: It helps keep the bottom of tent from getting poked from twigs and sharp objects; you'll really appreciate this when it rains and not leaking, 3rd, the tent is easier to clean and keeps the tents bottom from getting muddy and dirty while camping, making it quicker and more enjoyable to pack up, dealing with a dirty footprint is way easier. 4th: For $25 the footprint is a no brainer when comparing price of other footprints. I have used this tent a lot for car camping/base camps and works great for it, very comfortable and practical. Highly recommend. For the low price, this one makes it a good massdrop deal compared to anything else out there; although the Alps Taurus 4-Person and Lynx 4p are almost identical and slightly bigger at same price or less. PS> The only other option would be to get a Tyvek sheet cut to almost the same size as factory sheet but some additional coverage for under the vestibule area to help bags, shoes or anything else kept in it from getting dirty or wet from moist ground.

C.radAll very good points. #3 especially- I'd much rather clean a footprint than the bottom of my tent. Especially on the trail, so much easier.

VajtagalI appreciate all the comments. I did get the footprint and would recommend it as well for all the reasons mentioned. Overall I've been very happy with this tent.
