You know, I loved Massdrop. Was in early, bought lots of products, hoped it would thrive and grow. "Drop" seems to have killed off almost everything thing that was awesome about Massdrop -- the quirky communities, the products that you couldn't get elsewhere, the great prices for group shipments. This "drop" is a classic example of how hollowed out the site has become. US$30 for this product, plus US$35 for shipping, for a total of US$65 = CA$87. Over on Ali Express, I can get the exact same item for US$26, plus $1.40 for shipping to Canada. Works out to CA$37 for AliExpress vs CA$87 from Drop.
Maybe Drop wants to shrink their customer base to USA only. That's their prerogative, but be honest with the rest of us OK?
I doubt I'll be back, a sad day.
onewarmlineI understand how you feel. I havent bought anything here for a while. Haven't seen anything that was enough of a deal to buy. Looks like they're gearing towards there own products with our feedback more than anything. They get our feedback and polish their products for free. Im not sure where this site is headed anymore.
MaddrakeThe same place they've been headed since they launched; toward eventual acquisition by a larger company by gradually increasing their margins/profitability--the goal of every startup.
The final straw for me was when they pulled the Rising Sun kit from the Otaku Kiibido keycaps back in 2015 because a bunch of Korean spammers brigaded the drop & accused MD of selling Swastika keycaps. One thing I will say about Massdrop: at least they maintained integrity in the comment section by not censoring the overwhelming amount of people/posts calling them out on their obvious bullshit.
Then again, I suppose it's probably sad that I consider this to be laudable rather than the bare minimum.
I've bought plenty of stuff from massdrop and their shipping rates to Australia are usually quite reasonable. I've purchased many things way heavier and bulkier than this for less than $10 shipping.
$32 shipping for a lightweight headlamp? That's a joke.
Amazon on the other hand, i find, usually has expensive shipping prices to Australia (or no shipping to Australia at all)
If it cost too much to ship it overseas then don't buy it, why cry about it? Buy it from a Co where you live, I don't buy much from overseas Co because it cost too much for me, but I don't cry like a b**t hurt baby about it.
Flashman"If it cost too much to ship it overseas then don't buy it"
-Cool, Thats precisely what we are doing.
But thanks for the reminder.
"why cry about it?" + "don't cry like a b**t hurt baby about it"
-No one is claiming that they are crying. Last i checked, voicing a complain so a business can make corrections isnt technically crying. However IF that is so, then you yourself is, in your words, "a crying b**t hurt baby" for voicing a complain yourself.
"I don't buy much from overseas Co because it cost too much for me"
-Did you cry about it?
EDIT: Flashboy edited his original message after my reply. Perhaps an attempt to smooth out his overly machismo statement.
Dinky move if you ask me.
MD, how do we do better with these drops? This is currently on Amazon for $36.95, with Prime free 2 day shipping. I thought the point was to get a good deal because we (the MD community) commit to buy in multiples?
marcel_mercerAgree. Just the black color is available with free shipping (not Prime) for $34.95. It looks like a great rechargeable headlamp. I’m deciding between the yellow with Prime, or saving two bucks.
$32.00 shipping to Australia for me. I've been looking at getting one of these but lol no thanks. That's $62 USD... plus the the typical 1.5-2month Massdrop wait.
spiznasGot mine from ali-express took about 2 weeks though. $50 aud ($36usd)

Hi. Maybe this is addressed somewhere but I missed it. (I use a mobile device to access Massdrop 99% of the time. Maybe it's easier to find using a non mobile computer.) Question for Massdrop: how is it that a 5oz stove (heavy compared to many current options) is currently listed in Ultralight, while a 1-2oz headlamp (a lightweight high-output headlight option) is listed in Everyday Carry, Outdoors? To help me find items of interest to purchase, could Massdrop kindly help me understand the logic when listing items in Everyday Carry, Outdoor, and the Ultralight communities? I'm particularly interested in lighter weight backpacking items. Thank you very much.
And while I have the floor :), if Massdrop is really an online "Community," why are these questions so often treated by Massdrop as a one-way discourse as opposed to discussions that get meaningful replies? For example, there are innumerable requests for news about drops (that have over the 200 interested people threshold) that are simply ignored. It's hard to support a community without communication. Thanks again.
$62 total for shipping overseas is ridiculous. Better off buying from ebay or aliexpress.
This website (specifically the hiking category) is now a joke compared to massdrop of yesteryears.
