Nitecore P36 Flashlight

Anybody understand the trick to the rotary switch on this thing? Sometimes when it's moved, the brightness level doesn't change, keep moving it and it skips level(s). So, for example, it's at level 3, one click counterclockwise, no change, one more click and it's at level 5. Am I missing something, or do I have a defective flashlight? Thanks.
