I'm sorry to say, this is a hard pass for me based on the previous one (different model K0-01) I purchased from MD. The button design is poor and the grey cover may actually fall out as it did on mine and others. My charging circuit also has failed, again like others. Tech support / customer support is *nonexistent * so good luck when it breaks.
Note to Massdrop: Please look to another vendor for light drops. This brand is not doing you any favors.

Hey Guys,
I bought one of these off the previous drop and I have to say its the best flashlight I've ever owned. Granted this is my first foray into lights outside of AAA pocket lights - but I have been more than happy with this light, and the fact that you can recharge it is awesome! I would definitely recommend this if you don't have a light in this size range.
Not suitable for tactical use. The build quality appears generally good, and the light feels nice in the hand. The beam is bright and the brighness levels are useful. But it's not a tactical light because there's no momentary on, and to turn it on requires a 0.5-1.0-second press of the button, and another long press to turn it off. That's fine for casual use, but a tactical light must have a momentary switch option, or at least an immediate response from the power button.
BionicTulipYep, user interface seems to often be an issue on flashlights with multiple levels.
For those wondering: this takes a long press to turn on or off, a single tap rotates through modes (H>M1>M2>L>H>...), and double clicking gets a strobe. Light starts up in the same mode you turned it off at.
Ideally, I look for a few things in these user interfaces:
- instant on
- minimized waiting for mode changes
- low chance of hitting mode changing hazards (ie: click to change modes too fast and you'll end up in strobe on this light)
- direct access from off to a few modes (lowest, highest, etc)
- no extra flashes when executing a press combination (ie: avoids going to a higher mode from 1 press when I'm about to click a second time for a double click)
This lacks a lot of these.
That said, I do like the beam pattern of this (tighter spot than most lights this size), and the potential convenience of the usb rechargability.
HookIf you haven't already, check out zebra lights. Although other light manufacturers have a lot of flashy (ha ha) specs and features, the zebra lights have the best interface and solid specs. It's a quick click to get to high -> click again to cycle from high down, press to get to low -> hold to cycle up from low. There are even double click (switch between L1 and L2, M1 and M2 etc.), triple click (beacon mode), and other functions. I try other lights but the zebra stays on my belt because the interface is the best I've used. Mass drop has done a few drops of zebra lights and I've been very happy with them.
Username-1928328Just based on specs... This one looks to be an inch shorter, is lighter, doesn't have the attachment ring, and has less throw (shorter length, so maybe shallower reflector?). Other than that, both are made by the same company with the same LED (and presumably the same drivers, since they have the same modes). So, if you want a smaller, lighter, and perhaps flood-ier beam, this one might suit you better.
I got mine. Form factor and size are great.
But I'm not 100% satisfied. The beam is more spot lighty than I prefer for a light this size. It's a personal preference, but I'll be using this within 20' or so, and would have liked more of a flood.
Also, mine came with a ragged beam. One side of the central beam circle extends out further than where the main beam edge should extend. While still fully functional, it's annoying.
The worst part is that the very center of the beam has a greenish coloration that reminds me of the dark green around the edge of an egg yolk that's been boiled too long. It's just in the very center, an then turns to a regular warm yellowish white at the edges of the beam.
So not perfect. If some of these things could get addressed, it could be a great mid sized light.
Now that the drop is over folks may not visit here see this, but I'll ask anyway.
Anyone know if this should be charged with a 1A or 2A USB charger? And, is there circuitry to prevent overcharge?
Thanx
m8omanVolts are pushed, amps are pulled. You don't have to worry about how many amps your charger provides as long as it's high enough. The flashlight will pull what it needs, if your charger is lower it means it will just charge more slowly.
LucentHa, I'm the one usually writing that...
K, Just thought in the case of lithium ion charging, matters were a bit different and protection against over charging is a must.
ultralightThe linked to flashlight on Amazon seems to not come with a battery.
Interestingly, the list of included parts seems to be slightly different, too.
The one here comes with an extra O ring and an extra rubber switch cover. The one on Amazon says it comes with two extra O rings, but doesn't mention an extra switch cover. Both come with the USB cord.
It's odd because don't these little spare parts come packed at the factory?
I know batteries can be found for cheap, but I'm sticking with my order here for the included battery and the extra switch cover. Plus I'm not in a rush for flashlights - I probably have more than anyone can use up in a lifetime, LOL.
Maybe the Amazon deal is better for those overseas? I don't know.
What's with the $21.25 shipping price (to Ireland)? The point of these group-buy things is to get cheaper things, if then shipping is inflated, I might as well just buy stuff on Amazon.
