"...the technology behind them drives costs upward." Um, WTF? This is counter to any and everything i have learned about the economics of technology production and development.

I'm the main photo you should a MacBook (possibly a MacBook Air) but in my research I am unable to find any documentation that shows any MacBook product that is capable of driving three (3) monitors at once.
Is your photos merely a prop or do you actually have all three monitors being driven by that MacBook?

I don't think so. USB-C is a round'ish port right? Not square like the traditional ones right? The system info just says they are USB 3.0. But I am pretty sure they are NOT type-C.
MjsteelegaMjsteelega, So at this point you need to figure out if you want to do 3 externals or 4 external monitors.
3 Monitor setup. This is the most affordable product that I would trust to work.
https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Universal-Docking-Station-Ethernet/dp/B00ECDM78E/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1476224315&sr=8-9&keywords=plugable+USB+3.0+to+hdmi
You will be able to run one monitor HDMI at full resolution and one monitor DVI at full resolution. You can run the third monitor from your Display port connection directly from your Macbook.
4 Monitor setup. In addition to the product I listed above for the 3 Monitor setup you will also want to purchase this.
https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Graphics-Multiple-Monitors-2560x1440/dp/B01C6HBJOA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1476224315&sr=8-3&keywords=plugable+USB+3.0+to+hdmi
You will be able to add the 4th monitor with this adapter and run at full resolution.
I hope this helps you out!

HeatherVI been emailed by a Community Support team the first of the month. They said that earliest possible delivery was probably the end of the month. Offered refund for inconvenience, agreed to the refund via email and voice mail left. But it has been 3 days since that email and nobody emailed back to confirm or anything to let me know the refund has been process or any update at all.

does this setup have a way to consolidate the video input into one port or would I need 3 hdmi cables to use all three monitors? Sorry if it's a dumb question but I didn't see it stated either way in the description.

CanisVulpesWould've been included in the description if it was included. Not sure if that's a common thing for desktop setups yet.
Since each monitor accepts HDMI, DisplayPort 1.2a, DVI, and VGA from what the description says, you just need a a GPU with at least three output ports. Could be any combination but obviously want to lean towards DisplayPort and DVI if you want to take advantage of highest refresh rates.
