Support for Alternative Layouts
This is a summary of how alternative layouts have been supported by kits such as Colevrak and Homing. It is not a discussion of alt layout performance and development, but if that interests you I highly recommend starting with Pascal Getreuer’s A guide to alt keyboard layouts (why, how, which one?). It’s a concise and comprehensive overview with links to some great sites that go deeper. He also has a separate Links about keyboards page. The Keyboard layouts doc he recommends explains layout goals and metrics in detail, summarizing the alt layouts discussed here as well as more than one hundred others. Sculpted-profile The majority of custom keycap sets are sculpted-profile (Cherry, SA, MT3, KAT, etc. - more on profiles generally here) so let’s start there. Because each row has a unique keycap shape, alt layouts require a unique keycap for each legend that moves off its QWERTY row. People aren't really providing help, because there really isn't any way to help. Either the keycap is going to fit or it isn't. Either this is on Massdrop/NPKC or on you. Unfortunately the keycaps do not fit and this is on you from our perspective, hence the comments.
It also comes across a bit odd to call razer keyswitches some of the best. By those who investigate keyswitches often, they are of poor to okay quality, and certainly poor value due to the extraprice razer charges.
As per having difficulty getting the keycaps off, that is on you. Keycap pullers are cheap and you can fashion them from paper clips if you must. Even tightly fit keycaps (like those with ALPS stems) will be a breeze with these.
Now, are you claiming that the NPKC keycaps won't even fit on the razer switches? It isn't unheard of to have issues fitting with the occasional rogue keycap, but I find it unlikely that this will happen for every key. After you get them on, a tight fit is no issue.
Now, when they mean that the razer blackwidow x chroma isn't a compatible layout they mean that the keycap widths aren't correct. Take a look at your keyboard (https://www.razerzone.com/gaming-keyboards-keypads/razer-blackwidow-x-chroma ), specifically at the bottom row. Now take a look at a standard 104 key layout (http://www.daskeyboard.com/model-s-professional/images/model_s_pro_slider_2016.png). Notice that keys like the windows key is smaller, and the control and alt keys are wider on the razer. This is actually one compelling reason to avoid razer keyboard.
Even if you fix your fitting issue, your layout incompatibility is an indication to us that your research wasn't complete.
BTW, you won't find stuff like these on amazon, and when you do they will often be of poorer quality.
