Support for Alternative Layouts
This is a summary of how alternative layouts have been supported by kits such as Colevrak and Homing. It is not a discussion of alt layout performance and development, but if that interests you I highly recommend starting with Pascal Getreuer’s A guide to alt keyboard layouts (why, how, which one?). It’s a concise and comprehensive overview with links to some great sites that go deeper. He also has a separate Links about keyboards page. The Keyboard layouts doc he recommends explains layout goals and metrics in detail, summarizing the alt layouts discussed here as well as more than one hundred others. I'm very satisfied with the set. It's fairly thick (see pic for the NPKC vs stock Novatouch cap) and is every bit as gorgeous in person as it is in the description, if not even more so. The gradient matches more vs the picture on the front page (for example, the area around the Esc to F4 keys are blue on the front page vs the more uniform color on the real thing). Every cap fits perfectly (not too tight, not too loose) and doesn't come off even if I flip the board and shake it vigorously. I did use the o-rings that came with the novatouch as these are Cherry profile caps. The top of the caps do have some texture on them. I prefer them to have some texture vs smooth so that's a plus for me.
