I got my pair from the last drop a few weeks ago, but only tried it out today.
First thoughts were:
1. Wow. Where is the treble? There is absolutely no treble in these.
2. Why does the music sound like it is being played through a pillow? So muddy, distant, and recessed.
Totally underwhelmed by these on first listen. In fact, I can't imagine anyone would release an IEM that sounded like this at any price, let alone one that retails for $499.
I don't think there's a defect in them, as both sides sound the same. But I was surprised at how poorly these sound on first listen.
Perplexing, because there are so many very, very positive reviews of them. I'm hoping that it may be a system matching issue, and maybe that burn in is required.
Has anyone experienced their Primo8s sounding like they have absolutely no treble, and sounding super murky and distant?
I'm playing them through a Teac HA-P50 SE dac/amp, driven by a older Moto G smartphone, streaming Pandora (I know it is Pandora, but I've never heard Pandora sound this wrong out of the setup).
Fitment is good. I have big ear canals, and I always find the largest included tips seal well.
Anyone experience anything similar with super muddy, distant sound, and non-existent treble?

K.T.NUnfortunately it does sound like you have a defect pair. The Primos have quite balanced and neutral sound. Played through a pillow and no treble seems strange. However please do try something else than Pandora. :) The Teac should work well but Pandora´s bitrate is very low and it kills the dynamic range. If you´re using neutral earphones, such as the Primo8, you´re not getting even half of the ideal performance when playing Pandora.
If your experience is still the same after testing something else than Pandora, could you please contact our customer service so we could swap the pair, even if just in case? You can call or send a contact form: https://www.optomausa.com/us/tech-support/contact-us-americas.aspx
I am deeply sorry for the inconvenience and trouble.

K.T.NSounds like the output impedance (OI) of the DAC/Amp you are using might be rather high. According to measurements of this headphone (https://rinchoi.blogspot.com.au/2014/03/nuforce-primo-8-firstborn.html), an OI of 33 ohm results in a 11db SPL drop in the treble, while an OI of 10 ohms drops it by 6db. I had a quick google and couldn't find any reliable source on the model you listed, only someone on head-fi claiming it was around 5 ohms, so it's entirely possible that it's higher. You could try it directly out of your phone, see if the treble is still rolled off, find the OI of your phone and try to confirm if that's the issue. From what you're describing I doubt it's a tip problem, but you could try the Complys, which were measured giving a mild treble boost in the article I linked. This sensitivity to OI is an unfortunate result of the multi-BA setup, and the only real solution is to get a source with a low OI, preferably under 1 ohm.

JyriThank you, Jyri, for your reply.
Yes, I'll try another source, and other amps as well.
If sound is the same, I'll contact you for a swap.
Thanks!

K.T.NI got mine today. My first impression is a downgrade of my daily use se215.

David_HKDifferent sound signature. My experience was an upgrade from se215. But I do prefer the warmth of se215 while I like the mids and highs of Primo8. I eventually sold my primo8. Saved up and bought westone Um pro 50.

K.T.NHi. I had exactly the same experience with the sound impression you have. And additionaly the left speaker fell off after only 2 minutes listening. What are your experiences after changing the DAP? Thx
