I dont recommend this product at all, confusing for the initial setup, and after 1 month of use, it's broke. it still on, but i cannot do the initial setup nor reseting the device.
google app also does not find the device when i try to reseting / do the initial setup.
support? or anyone to ask from customer service,,,, N a d a,,,,, hard to find any solution.
This is a really fantastic entry level AUDIOPHILE speaker. I haven;t used it with Google Assistant though. It would be even better if the design included an FM radio or a micro-SD card slot and a 3.5mm stereo as inputs. It could be quiet or really LOUD with little distortion! Awesome BASS!
As others have noted, the bass is a little too much. I wouldn't say "muddy" except a few times in the 60Hz and lower range (but who would expect a speaker at this price point to be clean in that register?). It's just a touch overpowering for my taste. Even after finding a sweet spot in the room I'd like to tweak it down one or two dB. I'd be annoyed if I'd paid the retail $100 but I only paid $65 here. For that price it outperforms a lot of competitors and it's so much better than the Google Home Mini it replaced.
It's a great kitchen speaker not only because I always listen to music while cooking but also for the Google assistant. "Hey Google, how many teaspoons in a tablespoon?" "Hey Google, set a timer for 15 minutes." It looks classy enough and the black version doesn't draw too much attention.
So recommended with reservations. I'm hopeful a future upgrade will give it access to the Google Home EQ settings but I'm happy enough with it as is.
It worked as a Bluetooth speaker, but did NOT connect to Google for Google Assistant. Try to contact support, but no response. As a Bluetooth speaker it sounds very good. DO NOT BUY, THERE IS NO SUPPORT FROM ONKYO.
People have been reporting a muddy sound, I don't hear this. While it is certainly on the bass heavy side, it still has decent treble response. My only complaint is that it occasionally does not pick-up my voice, but I am thinking it is just my diction as my wife is heard 99% of the time.
I am getting another one as a gift. While people complain about the sound it is still far above those in this price range. It can get very loud without distortion. Many speakers in this price range get terrible distortion at higher volumes.
The speaker may not be as feature rich as some others, but it is very well built and to my ears has quality sound, especially for the price.
If you have any questions let me know!
Here is a link to a sound recording I set up of the speaker. Bass is slightly more punchy in the bass heavy song as the mic was set up close to it. Normally, it has similar volume, but less punch.
