BenIsa21Oh come on.. $1299 maybe on the expensive side, but to suggest that the watch should be $200 max is ridiculous, they are well built and the movement alone would cost you $130 to $180.
lukinidMaybe I was not specific when I said “a couple of hundred dollars”. You can get a similar watch like Steinhart Ocean One with ceramic bezel, GMT complication, ETA 2824 all for $550-$580 (did a quick search at gnomon watches).
In saying that, I know for a fact that the brand factor plays a part in the pricing of watches. Whilst this is subjective, I for one favour the value for money type of watches. Each to their own. If you like Oris, that is you. I like Oris too, especially the Aquis range. But I personally feel it is expensive for what you can get. Heck I bought a a victorinox field watch last month here for $130 With ETA2824 (although no ceramic). Victorinox is a brand very much on the value for money but very, very well made.
If the Aquis was in the same price range as the Steinhart, I would jump to it trust me. I feel that should be its price range. Again that’s a personal opinion.
BenIsa21Well the only reason I replied to your comment is because of the $200 remarks. I'm not saying that $1299 is great price for the Oris but $200 is ridiculous. Had you compared the price with the Steinhart in your first comment I would definitely not have said anything, heck I might even agree with you.
lukinidIf you read my comments again I never specifically said $200. Where did I say that? I specifically said “a couple of hundred dollars” which can mean $300, $500 etc.
s0uvenirMaybe it’s where I am from. In Australia when someone says a couple, it can also mean a few (Cambridge dictionary seems to think also).
This is just everyday lingo, not any sort of formal writing. All good! Maybe same word different meaning in America or wherever else you may be. Like they say, cultures play a part in communication.
benbeth1927It's not a 200 it's a 200-1. The older ETA movements had issues with the brass gears stripping when manually winding. The Sellita 200-1 fixed that issue, I believe. Additionally learn about Oris history. They were once part of the Swatch Group but then pulled out when they saw their brand image going downhill, since the Swatch Group were going to turn them into a low budget quartz watch company. Oris bought themselves back. Swatch Group also are making it more and more difficult to buy ETA movements. Read this about Sellita. https://www.fratellowatches.com/exlusive-sellita-manufacture/
BenIsa21No, you are mistaken. A couple means two, perhaps English isn’t your first language? A husband and wife are a couple. A few means 3-4. So they were not wrong in interpreting your post, you said a couple of hundred. A couple of hundred is equal to $200 exactly.0
JdjungInteresting read. Thanks for sharing. They are quite similar in quality and I don’t think you can go wrong with either movements. My comments are only based on watch repairers who have a slight preference on the ETA2824. In saying that, they are both reliable and affordable movementS.
CCTOLets stop parsing the English language.
You are wasting your time.
A Salita 200 movement is on the lower end of automatic movements.
We are not talking about the movement in a Patek Phillipe, Frank Muller, or even a Rolex.
The movement should be in a watch with a retail range of $400-800.
