I don't understand the price point of this brand. Lowest level movement. Mineral caseback. The brand doesn't have an extensive history. Basically they inflate their prices so $480 seems like a steal? Seems to me the same thing Invicta does, just at a higher price point. Or...are the cases and bracelets really that nicely made?
heraclitus682Oris is over a century old and still in business.
If you want to pay for name, history, exclusivity or advertising that's fine, but don't blame a brand that doesn't play this game.
This drop brings back some old memories, while at the same time, it reminds me of how many of the OG Watch Guys are so obviously MIA from this community--not to mention all the OG MD guys who are no longer with us.
I miss 'em all!
Sad to hear. I've been gone for a while, and might even be considered on OG (well, if OG stood for old guy, then that's definitely me).
The watch selection certainly seems far less interesting than in 2017 when I joined. And the change from MD to Drop, along will the major redesign, made it feel less like a community and more like just a shopping app. Previously it seemed to balance shopping and community better than it does now.
Well, I wouldn't say I'd casually drop that kind of cash. I certainly don't begrudge you whatever stipulations you might have. I just thought that since there are plenty of movements that have a 38 hour reserve for even more cash I was a bit surprised.
BenTWPSure. I definitely won't be getting one which is even more expensive though. I apologise if you thought I was claiming this is somehow an objectively poor watch. My objective in the discussion area is typically my personal opinion.
Correct, no papers. I'm returning the watch. A pity, because it's really nice. I don't mind the warranty from Massdrop, but at least the papers should be there.
Gotta admit, this is a very good price. The lowest price I could find for the 01 561 7693 4031-07 8 22 20 is $600 on Amazon. But there are many other sources selling it for much more. I have a large wrist, and am hesitating only because the 30mm width would look a bit odd. I wouldn't even consider the smaller version.
This really is a good price on an Oris watch.
Yes, I understand. Were it not for the lug to lug dimension I would not have bought it. I collect watches.
I'm not crazy about rectangular watches in general, but I've owned several over the years. Eventually, however, I sold them. I'm afraid I can't resist good watch deals (under ~$600), so I figured I'd take advantage of this deal and try a rectangular watch again. It's been a long time since I've owned an Oris, which I'm aware makes good watches.
One thing about this "drop" is that if/when I sell the watch, I don't think I'll take too much of a beating.
cgalnyI agree. It's a really good price, that if I don't like it, I won't lose much. I've been jonesing for a JLC Reverso but that's a whole other league. This should do well for everyday wear at the office. I don't see any other decent rectangular watches under $1000.
Interesting and looks well made. Just for the record it's not right to call a movement in-house unless it was actually made there, not just finished there.
FourthWheelI get myself in a lot of heated debates on this forum about the Chinese clones and eta and always winding up sounding like a dick but I’m a big fan of the tried and true eta swiss movements although a lot of people disagree with me saying there overpriced i paid $349 for that glycine and I have a gmt with a 2893-2 that runs spot on out of the box i never opened it up at all that one cost me $379 so imo there’s no reason for me to even entertain the thought of purchasing a seagull or haunsung movement but that’s just me i love eta
Pssst. Jomashop has this watch for sale online @ $495 with free shipping as always. Bet you it includes papers too. If you're going gray market, you're gonna have a tough time beating Jomashop.
