Fairly new to turntables. I have an Audio Technica AT-LP120. What are the benefits from moving from the stylus that comes with the AT-LP120 to something like the blue in this drop, if any?
Thanks!

SimielYou're going to get better clarity and detail in the music. I don't have a blue, but when I upgraded to a similar quality Audio Technica, it felt like the music was higher detail with tighter bass and crisper highs. A proper phono preamp made a similarly large impact in improving the sound too.

krugerliveThanks! Is it recommended to remove the internal preamp for the LP120 to use an external preamp?

SimielI'm in a similar situation and have a turntable with an internal preamp. I just keep it off (there's a switch) and go direct into the dedicated preamp. Before I got the pre-amp I used my receiver's photo amp because i liked it better than the built-in one. I'm eventually upgrading to a premium turntable (RP3, I have an Akai BT500 now, which is similar quality to your AT), but until then this setup works out really nicely. The preamp I got is Pro-Ject TubeBox DS, which is older, but sells for 50% less than it used to. It's adjustable so it can pair nicely with pretty much any cart. Hope this helps!
