Stronger than a cable lock and lighter than a U-lock, the OTTOLOCK cinch lock is the latest way to lock up your bike. It's made of multiple layers of high-temper, 18-millimeter-wide stainless steel bands that have been coated in scratch-resistant santoprene and reinforced with cut-resistant Kevlar Read More
Careful. This lock looks weak as apparently you cut through
it with a small hacksaw in less than one minute:

@Tenryuu : thanks for the valuable info - I didn't see you linked the video before posting.
Even for a quick stop it won't hold long enough imho.
gartland291I cracked a 3-digit combo luggage lock in a cab home from the airport. Got it on literally the last try (I started with 001...the combo was 000...) and it only took maybe 10 minutes max.
It doesn't even take 2 seconds to try a combo...rotate one click, sqeeze, rotate again, squeeze, etc. 3-digit is no good for anything that will be left in the same place over and over again.
That being said...this is probably 10x better than the little ski lock(like this: https://www.padlockoutlet.com/14574-large_default/4605d-master-lock-retractable-cable.jpg ) that I keep in my seat bag. You could cut that cable with simple tools, but it gives me enough confidence to lock up outside a coffee shop or in really safe areas. If you are sitting by the window and somebody grabs your bike and rides away, you'll never get outside in time...but if they start futzing with your 3-digit combo or pull out a tool to cut and disentangle your cable, you'll have time to run out there.
gartland291The makers have said they plan to issue a version in the future with a 4 digit combination lock. For some reason, it was more economical for them to produce the first version with a 3 digit combo. I've got one ordered. I wouldn't leave my bike out overnight, but I think it will be great for quick stops around town.
This kind of lock is only good for keeping someone from walking off with your bike while your nearby. So for quick stops around town or grabbing a bite. I would not leave my bike out if sight for more than a few minutes with this lock. If you need real protection then you need a ulock.
SpartanIVConversely it will buy you a few minutes for a stop while being light enough that you don't mind carrying it with you. I think it definitely has a purpose. I'm not going to carry a u-lock around with me on a 100 mile day tour when all I need it for is to deter would be thieves while I stop to get lunch.
I would prefer a key lock instead of a combo though.
HeeftyI didn't say it didn't serve a purpose, I listed it's purpose in my comment. I just don't want someone using this as their primary lock thinking it's good to use to lock their bike up out overnight only to find their bike missing in the morning.
planb10113Just checked availability at CampSaver. For the 30-in black it ships in 1 to 3 months . The 60-in black is listed as out of stock.
If you add the optional mount the 30-in price at CampSaver is almost the same as Massdrop.
Unfortunately I can't control the stock of locks the website has on hand. When I posted the link, the green and orange were still in stock, and the green 60" was ready to ship too. Looks like some others found the deal and took advantage. Maybe check back in a month and they'll have more.
Just trying to provide purchasing options for those interested in the product.
The last update on the shipping date was " ship to you around June 30th or sooner". Today is Jul 4. Dear massdrop, don't you think that at very list we are deserving another update?
Anyway,
Happy Independence Day!
It looks like a really good cable, but as others have pointed out the 3-digit combination is very unsecure. Just using "brute force" will have it open in minutes. I'd buy it with a 4-5 digit code lock, since I like the cable and design.
Maybe version 2.0? ;-)
YogaBearI've found with most combo locks of that style that you can feel resistance to turning the dial if you apply tension to the cable. This resistance changes when you're on the right number! It's a matter of seconds to open a 3 digit lock like that.
A reminder on the design intent behind the OTTOLOCK- it is a lightweight/compact/portable bike lock designed for short stops and convenience. It is stronger than a cable lock and lighter than a U-lock. It is NOT recommended for overnight security. Inquiries can be made at- support@ottodesignworks.com
If you want a flexible lock that can offer comparable u-lock protection, get an Abus Bordo 6500.
What's that, they're over $100? Yeah, you get what you pay for. Without further testing, I wouldn't trust one of these much more than a 'good' cable lock.
