bensbensThat’s true but that price is only for 1 color. If you truly want a hat that doesn’t act as a heat sink you would want a white cap and you save a few cents.
Pros and cons but just saying.
Burn! Just bought one a month or so ago off of Amazon. $24 for multicam.
Just an alert, this hat has a really terrible tensioning strap and closure. I thought I'd like it as I have a pony tail and it would be easy to snap around my pony tail. NOPE. The strap is slippery and slips through the closure. About 2 times a week I have to re tighten the band. This is the worst hat I've ever had! My hair also gets caught in the closure and rips my hair out when I take my hat off. I've been really impressed with Outdoor Research gear in the past. YMMV
BushCraft_BeatsI haven't had any issues with the band getting loose, or needing to be re-tightened. But I don't have a pony tail that may exert stress on it in the same way. I actually like the strap system, but I could see it being a problem for someone needing to unsnap(unlock?) it to put it on, and still get the right tension.
I run with this hat 3 times a week, and it's been working great. So far, my only complaint is that it doesn't soak up as much sweat as I'd like, and I still get sweat in my eyes. Otherwise, it's a great lightweight sunshade that allows lots of air over your head.
T_GoodI thought I'd use the snap feature of the strap, but I don't. The snap routinely rips my hair out, and the strap slides through the snap, so the hat is always getting loose. Again, I love this hat, but it is a real pain in the butt constantly tightening it.
Everyone who’s pissing and moaning about sizes and colors stop acting like this is a drop for half-price Lamborghinis! It’s a just damn hat; buy it from Amazon in any damn size and color you want and get on with your life! I did, and it’s a pretty nice hat—my color, and my size too!
RayFEh, I'd still consider MD. I'm only aware of it, through MD & I'm not suspecting any QC issues or such from a hat purchase.
I do agree w/ the gist of your comment though.
Hey, does anyone know how this hat holds up in the wind or cold?
I have a full head of hair but when I walk home from campus during the colder months I'd like some sort of wind stopper.
Otherwise, it seems great for the summer.
Well, after 42 weeks........
I'd have to agree the hat is very nice but in no way stops cold winter winds. Still, I liked it enough to own several now.
CardsfanbjBeen wearing xl ones for years. Head is 7 3/4+ shaved. I wear this hat and the one with snap on shade daily except in very cold weather. There's always one in my car
Please MD stop sending an email saying it's shipped when all that happened was creating the mailing label!! It has not shipped! Woohoo- a label. Big whoop. Kindly refrain from making me think oh cool it's on the way. It coukd sit for 3 days in label created stage.
I have had three generations of this hat and it is by far the most comfortable hat I have ever worn. I have a smallish head (7 1/4) and it fits me perfectly. I always keep a couple around and mourn when I lose one. But the clasp in the version I bought most recently is the worst yet...It does not stay clasped...when you take your hat off, the clasp comes undone. It's a minor thing but noticeable. Also, the band has a tendency to slip more in this clasp than in the older versions.
Anyone know how these hats are for those with a smaller head? worried that these one size hats might fit men better than women. Don't want it to scrunch up when tightened and have a bunch of slack hanging on the back of the hat again.
KimmiKatI think it would work fine. But the material that the tensioning strap is made out of is very slippery, so it slips through the locking mechanism. You'll essentially be wearing a yamaka, as the strap will loosen up, and the hat will just kind of flatly sit on top of your head. The wind can blow it off, or a fast head shake. I caught myself in a mirror wearing this hat. EMBARRASSING. You know that old man look, like you don't give a f anymore, can't manage to zip your zipper up, and your hat is just kinda flat on your head. I had it going on!! Haha. I'd like my money back.
I've had this hat for 4 or 5 years and I use it several time a week for running. It's been through the wash hundreds of times and still held up. Definitely recommend for a light-weight and durable hat for running/hiking/etc.
