Product Description
Ultra thin and USB based, the OWON VDS1022 oscilloscope allows for observation of signal voltages and currents in the field. Great for hobbyists and tinkerers, it has a 25-megahertz bandwidth and a 100MS/s real-time sampling rate Read More
I am too really frustrated by this. More and more products are exclusive to USA. Massdrop keeps sending these spam emails and last one I got only a single product was available outside USA. At this point am seriously contemplating about closing my account.
The 1022i is NOT 100 MHz as the listing says. It is 25 MHz but USB Isolated. A complete list of Owon part numbers for the VDS series can be found here http://www.owon.com.hk/list_virtual_oscilloscopes.
Is the software Open Source. If not then when this company loses interest in this model scope and stops maintaining the software the scope is dead and headed to a land fill.
This is basically a software 'scope and only as good as the software. Can the software be modified and will it run on the next computer I happen to own (whatever that might be)?
ChrisAlbertsonHardware scope with a software GUI... Otherwise they could not hit price points (due to component costs). 3 Iterations of hardware - VDS1XXX, VDS2XXX, VDS3XXX... I found nothing about the software - not to say it is not there...

ChrisAlbertsonIf you care about open source, I would wholeheartedly recommend Miniware's mini oscilloscopes. Open source both hardware and software. Even though original software was commented in Chinese, community support behind these is excellent. This company also makes TS100, TS80 soldering irons as well as ES121 electric screwdrivers which are all awesome.
Here's a review of DS212 mini oscilloscope by this company. They are at the same MSRP as this one, but in my opinion much more valuable as you get community extended features. That said, Owon scope has 25MHz while Miniware is 1MHz. So it really depends on your requirements.
I found on Owon's website that the VDS1022I has the same bandwidth (25MHz) and record length (5k). The only difference is that VDS1022I has an isolated USB port. Can Massdrop double confirm this please?

So the VDS1022I has 100 MHz bw but only 100 Ms/s; isn't that going to be aliasing city? So you really only have 50 MHz usable bandwidth, and only when using only a single channel?
UbaldWell, I suppose you could program the trigger output, perhaps?
In any case, the important part of "USB powered" here, is that it means you can very easily *float the scope* (at least, if you have a battery-powered laptop …). Which is very dangerous if you don't know what you're doing, but very useful if you do. It's no substitute for a *real* high-voltage differential probe, but it's a hellllll of a lot cheaper!
