This drop is for the basic Urban, with the premium version offered for $20 more. So why is the Urban Premium Aureate Powder featured in the lead photography? I smell switched bait.

Yes, I know they show the Basic versions in the other pictures, along with the Premium versions. My point was that Massdrop should be using one of the Basic models to attract our attention, since the Premium versions carry an extra charge.

I don't like the redesigned Urban. I like my old Urban with the Vector style nib. Pass

Technically according to Parker, you should take the ink out and clean the nib after every use. Not very practical when I use this pen everyday... I would be cleaning the Pen 100 times a day.

I purchased the Parker Urban Premium white pearl, and it is so beautiful. The only flaw was there was a tiny tiny black marks on the end of the pen. No one else would be able to tell, but when you spend $70 on a pen you expect it to be in perfect condition. I do anyway. The pen was not purchased through here though. Unfortunately at the time of purchase amazon had the best price. The pearl is real beautiful though, nice weight, fine nib is perfect for me. I do want to pick the night sky version up. That color is gorgeous. I wish they still made their night sky blue ink..😭

So this will be my first fountain pen. I also bought the ohta fountain pen. Will there be much of a difference?

funny that I have owned all three of your suggested starter pens, but none of them appealed to me. I would add the undervalued Faber Castell Loom, best steel nib at this price range. However, the absolute best steel nib pen is my diplomat excellence,(ordered from MD)

I, like you, have a love affair with exceptional fountain pens. After reading your comments, I wanted to tell you what solid advice you just gave. If I were just starting out, those reviews would have charted out a great beginner's collection. Well done.

Some of the premium finishes are quite attractive. I'd pass on the basic version, though. Especially considering that the Lamy Lx is on offer right now for just $5 more (not to mention the included notebook).

Caveat emptor ... while this is a very handsome pen model with a very nice smooth nib, it does have one design flaw (in my opinion; also noted below in the discussion): There is a VERY large breather hole in the cap that causes the nib to dry out within a matter of hours of disuse. It also causes ink to evaporate from the converter. This might not be enough to dissuade some purchasers, but it is worth noting. You can see the breather hole under the clip in the picture of the orange premium model in this drop.

There are probably a variety of reasons.
First, a couple points from the ISO 11540 document preview that you can get without shelling out nearly $70...
"It relates to such instruments which in normal or foreseeable circumstances are likely to be used by children up to the age of 14 years."
"It is, however, acknowledged that certain products (i.e. writing and marking instruments which are designed or only intended for use by adults, e.g. jewellery pens, expensive fountain pens, professional technical pens) are not intended for use by children and such items have to be clearly labelled to that effect."
Also, just because there's a standard doesn't necessarily mean that companies are obligated to follow them. Out of all the other fountain pens I have (Pilot, Lamy, TWSBI, Kaweco, Conklin, Monteverde, Noodler's) none of them have a breather hole like the one on the Parker Urban. It would have been nice if Parker could have found a way to have the breather hole a little further down on the cap body so the inner cap could remain intact and properly seal the nib.

Myself, I wish someone would tell Parker engineers that no breather hole is necessary and that ISO standard can go right in the trash. It makes their pens all but unusable for the serious writer. Which is a shame, because I like their nibs and their aesthetics.

this is my first fountain pen purchase, I'm a noob. This may be a dumb question, but does this come with ink, or do I need to purchase ink separately?

DMX4Almost all fountain pens will generally come with at least 1 cartridge to use. After that you will need to choose if you would like to continue to buy cartridges or transition to bottled ink in which case you will need a converter.
Note that Parker pens use a proprietary cartridge/converter system and you will not be able to use the inexpensive standard international design.
I highly recommend the videos available at Goulet Pens and SBREBrown on YouTube for introductory purposes.
