Is this CREE? Just can't comprehend this price tag for a vanilla LED... but the pictures seem to be specifically avoiding showing this, so I'll just find another CREE from Chinese eBay.

CrunchySpiderIt's a LED. Source: http://www.amazon.com/Pelican-Flashlights-7060-001-110X-Rechargeable-light/dp/B00197C22M/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8 Look below for technical details and there's Type of Bulb: LED. Also don't let the high rating on Amazon fool you, because the most helpful comment was made 2008 now its 2015. It's only 7 years, not that we live in an ever-advancing technological world.

This was state of the art when it was first released in 2008 & cost $150 then. This is just ridiculous now in 2015. Yes they have upped the lumens but it's still a 1/3 of what it should be & a 2200 mah battery in 2015? Seriously. For this kind of money it should have a 3400mah if not a 3600 mah or lower the price to around $75 MSRP & $50 via MassDrop buying power.

FroggyThese are probably just lights remaining in some old warehouse that needs "disposing", albeit not at a cheap price. :P

We have these as standard issue in our agency and they pretty much suck. When they are new they are ok but expensive for the performance. Like any Lithium powered device they perform great until dead, then they just shut off with next to no warning. They are supposed to blink occasionally before the battery dies, but our experience has been that when they blink once, fifteen seconds later they are done.
I have experienced much better performance in similarly priced lights from LED Lenser, Streamlight, Surefire and Fenix.

So what is it that lets Pelican demand this sort of price? Is it because they're "certified tactical", or is it because they're mainly shooting for government contracts? And is this 3.7v Li-ion battery an 18650 or some other form factor?

VulpesThe Nitecore EC4 die cast light I bought from MD for 45 bucks has a maximum throw of 322 M compared to this 199 M (from description) and it is a lot less bulky in size. http://flashlight.nitecore.com/product/ec4

Pelicans are sturdy lights that haven't kept up with newer competitors. There are many more powerful, modern design lights you can get for this price. you can checks brands like Olight, Fenix, Eagletac, Nitecore, or Malkoff.

Anyone with experience on Pelican lights? Haven't seen any of them appear on /r/flashlight. But popularity doesn't dictate utility.....or does it?
