A special edition from Pelikan, this M815 fountain pen stands out from the rest with its harmonious combination of materials. The resin body is accented with palladium-plated brass stripes: a refined look that calls to mind the iconic stripes of the Souverän series Read More
Endlesspens have it for 475 plus another 10% off with the code they give you. That's a smoking hot deal for this pen. The downside is it's a preorder, so you'll be waiting, bit like here really.
Do they do quality control at this level? Because they certainly don't for M200 - the pen costs like all my other three combined and doubled and is by far the worst writer of all.
Gotcha. Well, I don't think MD is seen as an authorized dealer, so you might not get much help. I'd clean it, a lot more than seems necessary. If that doesn't work, your alternative may be to order a new nib or have someone tune it. It's a tough situation, and I have been there myself. Fortunately, the pens I had which didn't write well eventually did start working after multiple cleanings (two sailor pens). I ordered my replacement pelikan nib from thewritingdesk.co.uk
They test their nibs I believe, and even with shipping from UK to the US it was the best deal I've found. Good luck, hopefully a few thorough cleanings will help you as they have me in the past.
StapletronIf it can be tuned on the cheap somewhere, I'll do that, otherwise, I'll just steer clear of Pelikan, their business practice looks dishonest to me.
How much was this pen sold for?
I just checked EndlessPens and they have this on pre-order for $475 plus a pre-order discount of 10%? and they are offering all nib sizes!!
To do or not to do??? - back down the rabbit hole... eishhh!
CatinkmaticFrom whom? When I looked just now, EP is still offering the pen only with Fine or Broad (but not Medium) nibs for the previously stated price, and Massdrop is still offering the Extra Fine nib as an option in the current drop, so I'm not sure to which seller your statement pertains.
In Australia by the time I do currency conversion , it's the same price as other pelican limited editions eg ocean swirl, stone garden, etc local street price. Would be interesting what price it is out of Europe, I know M800 stresemann green is US $335 from UK.
For those in the U.S., it is not a great deal. For not too much more (still under $600) you can get it from an authorized dealer with a warranty, not to mention some of those dealers being well regarded nib masters who can customize (or at least tune it) before shipping. That said, it is starting to get more rare as an edition, so outside the U.S., this might look like a better option.
Seems cheaper but, for people living in Singapore, after you factor in tax and additional charge by the courier company to pay for the tax beforehand, and charge by the bank for exchange rate... it’s the same price locally... and you don’t get local warranty... I don’t see the appeal here unless you really want this and must have this
RameishWhile I would happily welcome more nib choices, IMO the last thing I want to see from a 'heritage' company like Pelikan is for them to start chasing ephemeral, 'fashion-forward' design trends at the expense of their long-established brand and/or value proposition (I'm looking at you, post-Chris Bangle BMW). They may be limited in the scope of designs they offer, but their focus on execution and continuity more than compensates for it IMO.
