There Are Pandas, and Then There Are Pandas.
And this isn't either of them! The Pandas we're talking about here, are watches, not bears. And what got me thinking about them (again) was a link posted this morning by @cm.rook who pointed a few of us to the very attractive (and not terribly priced) Yema "Rallygraph" Panda which, in it's most traditional arrangement, looks like the one on the left, but can also be had in the version on the right: The model on the left is a true Panda, while the model on the right is called a reverse Panda. The reason for that distinction is clear--Panda bears, only come in the first arrangement. Now at this point, everyone should be thinking about the most well-know Panda, The Rolex Panda, which is actually a Daytona, and among Rolex Daytonas, the most famous of which is the Paul Newman Daytona, which was famous first, because it was Paul's, and second because it sold at auction for $17.8 million (US Dollars). "For stock, we will contact you after your order, to confirm. Because there is it when there is not the stock of the product, depending on the timing of the order, thank you for your understanding beforehand. "
Having ordered from Rakuten Global before I thought I would see how they would do with this M400.
At 10am EDT I placed an order for the M400 White Tortoise through the Rakuten site above. I was able to choose my nib, I chose a Broad. I immediately got an auto-reply email stating they would contact me once they could confirm stock.
At 10pm EDT I got the confirmation email with Paypal payment request for $215.32. this included shipping from Japan to NY and Paypal said it included conversion. I paid it and got a confirmation email stating I will get tracking when they ship.
I may get hit with a small fee for customs but never have in the past.
I will keep you apprised.
FWIW.
USA customers are at disadvantage when using this site it seems as MD probably ships inside of country for free but for us outside, $13.60 as opposed to $13.40 is not big of a difference and site offers, it seems, more options when it comes to nib selection.
We always try to offer the biggest selection and lowest price for all members, US and international.
Sometimes, members in different regions or those who want a particular style may find a few units available from another seller - and when you do, we encourage you taking advantage!
We'll keep trying to give better selection and better prices on Pelikan and all products. Your participation in drops and diligence in scouring the internets for info is always appreciated and helpful.
damn research cost me $215......... ;<)
Did you happen to pick up a bottle of the Rohrer & Klingner 'Alt-Goldgrun' ink. It matches the color of this pen almost perfectly, so does Bungbox 88 / Green Tea.
And, truthfully, saving the $20 was nice but I was more motivated by getting the nib size I wanted.
