The Souveran M400 was the first Pelikan to be released in this eye-catching White Tortoise color scheme. The lightweight celluloid acetate barrel features Pelikan's signature Stresemann pattern in golden green, deep brown, and clear stripes Read More
These pens are available on Rakuten (http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/penroom/item/pelikan122/) for $196. Not sure this is such a good deal. Although Rakuten doesn't deliver to my country. Too bad my wallet has seen so much torture this month for me to miss this pen. :/
So I decided to take the plunge. I just can't pass up the look of this pen, and I've ALWAYS wanted an elegant and classy looking fountain pen. I just really hope I got a great deal. This will be the start of my collection, as I've always been drawn to the world of elegant fountain pens, and calligraphy. I hope the is a good starting point into my collection.
As a new business owner, and one that is growing successfully, at a purely surreal pace, I wanted something to represent my first milestone, and I think this pen will be perfect for those occasions I want to wow my clientele when it's time to sign the paperwork.
I know there's a lot of experts around here reading through the many comments on these discussions. I wonder if anyone could recommend the right accessories for my new piece? As I'm just starting into this, it's really the basics I'm looking for. the needed accessories for day to day use. I can look into the frills at a later time, when my business hits the next milestone. I'm looking for things like the best reccomended inks for use on premium as well as everyday copy papers when it comes to document signing. I like the gold ink in the picture with this piece, but no idea if it's practical, or where to get it? What is the process on changing color if I want to go that route, is it possible or not recommended?
I went with the EF for my nib selection, as I want something faster drying, and I don't like a massive ink flow when I write. I tend to pause from time to time, and the less I have to pick up the pen the better. Not to mention my cursive can get a tad on the smaller font size.
Any help is much appreciated, especially information gathered and assessed from past experiences from various products.
Thanks, and Happy New Year!
DriderI don't know if you ever found a good ink for document signing and such, but you might want to look into Noodler's Black and Noodler's X-Feather. Both work well on more absorbent papers, particularly X-Feather. Also, both inks are permanent when used, Black more so than X-Feather.
There are some other good bulletproof inks out there that I just haven't tried, and some of them come in colors other than black. I don't have a Pelikan pen in my collection yet, but I hope you're thoroughly enjoying yours.
A_WilliamsThe Pen is fantastic! I get so many compliments, ... Err.. "IT gets so many compliments from clients". I did end up buying 4 50mL bottles of Rohrer & Klingner Alt-Goldgrun, and it's simply beautiful!
I will definitely take note of your suggestions, thanks!
I love this pen but my cap is showing some hairline cracks that ChartPak is unwilling to repair but they want to sell me the cap alone (without the Pelikan logo!) for about the same cost of this drop. So I get two things from this: this is a good price, and this is the only Pelikan I own that has had cracks appear on it. Oh, and a third: ChartPak won't service Pelikans bought from MassDrop; I really need to find out if Pelikan in Germany would help out. Make of it what you will...
silverthornneI also own one of these pens. Mine had a nib that was out of whack and needed to be adjusted. However, because Massdrop is not an authorized Pelikan retailer, you and I have essentially purchased our pens without any warranty.
I do hope you have better luck with Pelikan directly.
According to the pen repair lady at Chartpak, Chartpak has nothing to do with any of these Pelikan pens being sold by Massdrop, and these pens are not sourced into the USA through Chartpak, or from any Chartpak authorized Pelikan USA retailers. So where are they coming from, and why won't Massdrop provide warranty support or stand behind what they sell?
WindhorserHi @Windhorser,
Chartpak will honor Pelikan warranties for any purchases made on Massdrop.
Thanks to @learningsquare for the response and link. We've had the same kind of positive interactions with Chartpak, they seem to provide excellent service and repair to customers.
Paul.MLooks like Yoda is guarding your Precious. :) Which nib size did you exchange for? My EF turned out to be perfect. It is a pleasure to write with and I don't think I'll ever ink it with anything other than R&K Alt Goldgrun.
I was 39th on the drop and was disappointed that the Medium nibs were gone. I suppose the Fine nib of the Pelikan will be somewhat like the Medium on my Platinum so I'm not too emotional about it. Has anyone here used a Fine nib from Pelikan and can speak to it?
I’d join the drop if the price was the $189 of two years ago. But this price isn’t low enough to tempt me. For $5 more I can buy it from online sellers in the UK, plus get 3 bottles of Diamine 30ml ink.
Misfit1876Actually after you have paid VAT and the Royal Mail £8 handling charge plus the low value of the pound you a getting it for less than the price two years ago buying it in the UK. Generally you get a better deal all included on massdrop but not on this article for UK buyers
I, too, have been wavering on nib size...between a meium and broad but I'm leaning heavily towards "B". This would be my first Pelikan. My other favorite pen to write with is my Twsbi Eco 1.1 stub.
CannesHey I have numerous Pelikans--if you should ever want to modify the nib, the B size is a good one to work from. I have a .9 stub made from a Pelikan B. I just love it!
