Yes.. you can buy extra refills... but any artist needs more than one color inked pen. Three pens is a great deal. You can give them as presents .. or use them all at the same time inked with different colors. ;-)

Both you @Cyber6 are spot on with each point. I'm actually interested in buying only one body so I can practice my Chinese calligraphy from when I lived in China... being left-handed did not go over well with my instructor.

Actually your math is a little off. $8.09 x 3 is only $24.27, not $31.99. Plus it includes 2 ink cartridges (see Customer Q&A)

shadow99I'm not saying you're wrong. My math was basically "both options are pretty cheap." What I was saying, the point I was making, is that massdrop is becoming less of a bargain-hunting site for me, and becoming more of a discovery place for neat new products. So far, I've seen them do drops on mostly neat products that I haven't seen before. Bought a cool knife, LOVE my Chane speakers, massdrop selects interesting products. I came for headphone deals, but stayed out of curiousity for what else they will find.

I don't think Pentel makes different colored ink cartridges for them, and I'm not aware of any compatible converters. So having different colors might not be a reason to get this drop. You also lose the archival pigment ink, which is the main reason I got this brush pen over other choices.
Pentel does make colored brush pens, though. http://www.pentel.com/store/color-brush So that could possibly be a better choice for a multi-pen drop for this reason. And there are a few portable watercolor pens out there for those who want color.
I personally bought one of these recently, and don't see a reason to have more than one unless you want to stock up on them or give them to other people.

StreakInTheSkyTake an old ink cartridge, buy a syringe with a 15-20 gauge needle, suck up ink of your choice (Or gouache, gouache is probably best as it rinses with water) and fill cartridge. Return cartridge back into pen.
Problem solved.

Pretty good price per pen. You can find them on jetpens for $13.50 ea. But you could always just buy one from jetpens and buy a pack of 4 refills for $5.00 making this drop not as great.

andrew.bTrue as it may be to just buy refills, that doesn't refill the tip. Having a fresh tip and an older tip in your arsenal is important.

I'm tempted to join in. I have 5 of these already. Inked in Black, Lamy Blue, Herbin Rouge Caroubier and Herbin Scented apple green, and Herbin Bouton d'or. That's blue, black, red hilighter, green hilighter and yellow hilighter. I used them as super-mega-ink-capacity hilighters for college level courses; hilighting textbooks.
How? I filled em up with a pipette and simply fastened them tightly. Didn't even use silicone grease. Although silicone grease is preferred, probably.
