Works well, much faster than a sawyer squeeze or a hand pump.
I did a thru of the AT with a sawyer and other trips prior with various hand pumps. While the Platy is heavier than a squeeze, when you figure in the squeeze envelopes or a dirty water bottle the actual extra weight is about 4 oz, and for the speed and convenience of the platy I am going to use it going forward. I am so tired of rewatering being such a chore squatting and squeezing, and I just hung the platy on a hiking pole and bam, I had clean water flowing.
I’ve only used it on an overnight trip so far, so I couldn’t comment on longer term use issues yet. I also expect you could cobble together a bladder, filter, and hose (I leave the water bottle cap at home) and make something similar for 20 bucks less, but home projects have their pitfalls and this is a proven system. I am very pleased with it.
This is an ideal filter for trips into the back country. Especially great for groups. I have the 4 L bag. You fill it with dirty water, hang it in a tree, wait about 15 min and the other bag is full with 4 L clean water. And enough water for your entire group. So easy with no work. You can do camp chores while water filters. So no pumping, just patience. It’s not as ideal if you want to quick filter a little water, a pump works better for those moments. I have a pump filter, but have stopped bringing it on trips because this is so slick and easy.
Fast and easy set up. Filters quickly. 2L is a bit less than the amount I need to get through dinner and preparations needed for the next day's backpack but with an extra dirty water container it only takes a minute to be back in the filtering business without needing a second trip to the water source. Easy to back flush.

Easy and quick
Not used yet in the field, but practiced with it here at home. Super-easy compared to MSR pump Filter and Sawyer squeeze. Just about as fast as pumping with a clean filter. Easy to dry, simple to roll up and pack. It's a toss-up between this and the MSR gravity filter. They can both use each other's filter cartridges. The charcoal filter add-on is also nice for better taste and removal of lead or chemicals.
It’s nice to get to camp and fill the dirty water reservoir hook up the rest of the system and have up to a gallon of water for meals, top off water bottles, wash up anything you might need it for.
Works great and filters water quickly. I found it was best when used after camp was set up for the day, which was my intent when purchasing. Larger capacity allows for multiple people to use. Not as convenient for refilling on the trail, fyi.
