Although it is slightly heavier than a Sawer squeeze, the speed, volume and quality is far superior! I've been using this system for more than 6 years, and when in Backcountry with friends, every time my platypus system gets used by all, and they just either leave their systems in their pack or not even bring one.
RevLee I thought about that, and they're definitely cheap enough. I didn't end up getting one because it's such a specific tool to fix this one issue. The gear hoarder in me wants one, but the minimalist side is yelling just a little louder that a clothespin is good enough for now:)
I'll probably break down in the future and pick one up.
Fast, easy to setup and use in camp system. Saves time and eliminates the need to sit around and squeeze. I got the 4L system for $83 on sale and filter for the trail the next day.
I've had one for a few years and it's my single favorite piece of backpacking kit that I own. Makes water for an entire camp so much quicker than a pump. Also, everyone I've backpacked with has converted to gravity after a trip with this.
I just purchased the 4L system for our family backpacking trips. We just used it for our last weekend hike up Mt Rogers in VA. At the water source the system filters 1.5L per minute....beats hand pumping after a long day of hiking. We had 7 hikers and the best part of this system is bringing back 8L (4l clean/4l dirty) of water to camp, hanging the bag from a tree, and using it for our camp faucet. Adds a little weight compared to Sawyers, but for group backpacking it works great! Wouldn't appeal to the ultra light folks for single use....but if you use Platypus bladder, then the 2L adapter would be great for solo hikes.
