Are these " electro capacitive switches" basically Topre switches? I really love the RF 87U typing experience, does this compare to it favorably?

1984_FarmThis is poor-man's-Topre. With a dome-swap, it can be almost as good, but Realforce boards knock it out of the park.

1984_FarmSome people think they're better than "real" Topres, others do not. I do not have a real Topre myself though, but I'm very satisfied of my Plum keyboard. I couldn't say anything bad about it. Most complaints I've seen about Plum keyboards and 30g actuation ... come from people who haven't even tried either... Much of the anti-Plum wave you often see is solely based on herd mentality and the ridiculous higher quality perception when something is expensive. It's like with games, people are more likely to think a game has a high quality (and play it longer) when they've paid a lot for it compared to when they've gotten it for a discounted price.
The wording "travdump" used speak volumes "this is poor-man's-Topre" -> the suggestion something is bad...because it's cheap. Thus, my advice is to look at some real reviews (Youtube) and to then make up your mind rather than to listen to the popular opinion given by people of whom most haven't even tried a Plum keyboard.
What I like most about the Plum over the real Topres is the sound, the Plum makes a lower sound which is a looooot less annoying (I hate sharp sounds).

mattstermhI've heard them get called "Linear Topre." I'm sure they're all well and great if you like low actuations and low tactility, but they won't be for everyone.

1984_FarmI have two Plum's. They are incredibly satisfying to type on. Smooth, soft bottom-out, and that lovely "thock" sound at the bottom. Very satisfying and easy to type on. They are approximately the same weighting as a Cherry Red, in my estimation. I highly recommend this keyboard.

1984_FarmI have used both - Topre boards are lot more solid and substantial feeling and the switches have tighter tolerances so they rattle less. The RealForce keyboards feel more dense and stiffer, while the Plum doesn't feel bad, it doesn't exude the same sense of quality and gravitas that an old school RealForce does. Having said that, it's on par for the modernised RGB RealForces.
Typing wise they are similar to 30g Topres, mostly linear; modded to heavier domes; they feel similar to HHKB - oddly as they are plate mounted like RFs, I expected them to be more like a Novatouch. Actually, they remind me of unmodded NTs with better keycaps. OG Topre keycaps are much better quality, but they are better than the RGB ones. (Plus, you get cherry mounts - that's good as far as keycap choice and bad because you don't get the rock like stability of Topre mount.)
Overall, it's an excellent board for the price. What's telling, however, is that everyone I know who got one went on to get an 86 or 87 RF and wouldn't go back.

consolationThe Realforce one costs 3 x as much. Too much in order for me to be willing to try it, especially considering I'm happy with my Plum. The reason they don't go back might also (partially) be to blame on the fact that they've shelled out a large sum on the Realforce, thus even if both would be as good psychologically they'd be a lot more likely to keep using the Realforce. Unless I'd have the opportunity to try a Realforce before buying I certainly won't buy one. Since I'm very happy with my Topre I highly doubt the 3 x higher cost is worth it. Plus from Youtube videos it appears the real Topres have a much more annoying and louder sound.
Ideally I'd want a Topre (clone) which has an lower or adjustable actuation point and with a higher customization capability (software) than a Plum (I don't know the options for Topre).

1984_FarmI have this board along side a HHKB, RF87, and FC660C. The HHKB was dome swapped to BKE Heavy with BKE Extremes under the modifiers. The Plum (Mislabeled, it's actually a Niz. Plum is their line of MX boards.) is a little too light for my tastes, but as far as build quality/feel/mx sliders goes, this board makes the other Topre boards seem a bit overpriced IMO. I still prefer the real Topre boards, but the Niz is very much worth the money.
