The Proelia TX021 is a formidable folder for heavy-duty work. The star of the show is its 3.4-inch clip-point blade made from D2 tool steel for good edge retention Read More
Damn! I had joined the drop for the TX010 series (TX011 Red/black handle, black coated blade) and liked the knife a lot and it was my first Proelia. I went to BHQ to see if they had other Proelia’s. I saw this one with red and black handle and Satin blade and had to have it. It arrived Friday. Problem is, I paid $80 for it. I would have saved $30 if I settled for the black handle. But fortunately for me, the Red/Black isn’t available here for that price with the satin blade. For $50 though, this IS a good Drop
So what’s the coating on the black blade? I like the look of the polished blade, but with D2 I’m thinking the black might have an advantage with rust resistance.
Love this knife! Got mine a while back when it was available in a black handle with black blade and the price was a bit more, half tempted to get another.
Right after the TX011 drop ended I noticed that they opened this drop for the TX021. Since I really prefer the TX021 blade shape, I reached out to Massdrop customer service asking if they could help me out by switching me to the new drop. I have been a long-time loyal Massdrop customer and have purchased a lot of knives through them. I asked them to kindly make an exception and allow for the exchange even though the drop had just ended. I was very disappointed to get a response with a fairly generic response about no cancellation after the drop ends. I think I need to take my business elsewhere since they don't care about trying to help keep customers happy. I was asking for a switch so they would still have a sale and it was hours after the drop ended not days or worse when they had shipped. To me it is a very reasonable request and I even emphasized that I understood that it would be a one time exception as it is not there standard practice. Bottom line is they don't seem to care.
I am sharing this experience so that you can make an informed decision about dealing with Massdrop. You may save a couple of bucks (not always) but you are definitely losing on customer service. Up to you what is more important.
Good luck to everyone.
Cheers....
WARR10R7It's almost like if you asked Kickstarter to apply your pledge to another Kickstarter. That's not how this works. Pretty sure most people using this site understand that...
Ugh. This is actually a pretty good deal this time around at $60
The completionist in me says I need this to go with my TX010 & TX020....but do i? Lol
I never end up using those because they're so big, yet this one is smaller....but still looks chunky and heavy.... Hmmmmm, decisions, decisions....
TortoiseThunderSame price I paid here for the TX011 here back in December (the tanto version in this size)
It's a good price for these knives, but I'm over them.
Have the 2 large versions and the small tanto version and I've never carried any of them, just too bulky for my tastes.
I'd rather unload the 3 I have than complete the set by buying the 4th at this point
D2 and G-10. Nothing about this screams "Spend $80 now!"
All in all it seems nice enough, but the Kizer Vanguard series (like the Kyre I have in my pocket right now) are a better value for the same materials and (arguably) better designs. Kizer did a bang-up job with the Kyre, Gemini, and Intrepid. I also have a Bad Dog on the way. All of these were between $40 and $60 on MD.
Side note: I like the fact that they made this in a <3.5" version, making it easier for many to carry.....but just realized it's more expensive than the original 3.75" TX020 🤔
MaxwellDemonicI own the TX020 and the TX011 and I think they were both well worth the money. They are tanks that open and close very smoothly. They’re very well built with beautifully polished blades. Ball bearing pivots, razor sharp, perfect centering, feel great in hand. I prefer the blade of this TX021 (and my TX020) over my TX011 (which is a tanto style blade). I think if this gets down to $75, it’s a really great deal!
