Disclaimer: I replaced both of the "split rings" that came with it, with ones I was already using, so I can't speak for those, but I've used the stainless steel quick release daily for almost 2 years now, and it shows no signs of giving up. It has patinad slightly from use, and honestly looks better than when I got it. The release mechanism has softened up a tiny bit i.e. it's slightly easier to separate/attach the pieces now, but the pieces still fit together tightly with no gaps or play, and I've never had it come apart unintentionally.
I love having my work/car keys on one side, and "play" keys on the other. If I'm going somewhere without my car, I can split the keys in half and leave the bulky ones at home. If I'm driving somewhere, I can split the keys in half and leave my "play" keys in the cupholder, so I only have to keep the car keys on my person. Absolutely love it.
I have flashlights, key knife, tons of stuff, just not a lot of keys. These things hold em together like yoga pants. Btw I don’t wear yoga pants so don’t worry no pics.
Works great. I use these as quick releases for various things: I've got one of these between a carabiner and my Leatherman as well as between a Spyderco Dragonfly and my key-ring. Latches and de-latches with the right force and never de-latches accidentally (so far).
Four stars for still being a bit pricey for what it is.
Was impressed with this little doohickey as soon as I took it out of the package. It screamed "craftsmanship!" and "well-made!" at me, which startled me and hurt my ears somewhat, so I immediately threw it across the room. With my heart pounding and breath coming in short gasps, I made the sign of the cross with my fingers, and yelled "the power of Christ compels you!" I thought I saw a wisp of smoke rise from it at that point.
After that ugly scene was over and the hellfire was extinguished, I picked it up and looked more closely at it, took it apart (which was smooth and crisp with a gentle but firm twist and pull) and was then glad I bought it. It's nicely-shaped, flawlessly machined, and contrary to the experience of some of the reviewers here, the spring must have been put in correctly by the manufacturer because it works great. I took it apart several times, and each time it snapped back together with a nice, sure click and I don't think it will ever come apart on its own.
I bought the copper version, which matches nicely with my 'Frog Acid' pattern Key-Bar key holder. The brass, copper, or lexan Prometheus would have looked good with it, but the copper matches best, I think, and has a nice shine and character. It will hold the key fob for my truck dangling from the end of my Key-Bar, and I can see it giving years of faithful service. It has good weight for its size, and is impressive to me.
Good item, good purchase, and I'm glad I bought it. May buy one or two more for gifts if and when it drops again.
Edit: I should also note that it shipped 13 days before the anticipated ship date, and was received a week before the ship date. The transit time included a weekend. Can't complain about that.
Bought this so I could quickly attach and detach my fobs to my Tile Keybar for both of my vehicles.
Very nicely machined and does not come apart easily (why would you want it to unless you’re looking to lose your keys?).
I've had this on my keychain for a very long time and it has served me well!
I originally bought it to keep my car keys and my apartment keys separate because I didn't have to drive most days. It was so nice walking around with less keys! Also works great as a valet keychain. Build quality is stellar.
I have one in Electroless Nickel and I'm super satisfied with it! Have it on my key-chain and it's in use several times a day for several month now. Looks still pretty good concerning scratches. Would definitely buy one more...
Don't know what all the negative comments are about. I've had my Delrin one for well over a year now, not once has it ever looked like accidentally releasing. It's a super well made product and it takes just the right amount of force to seperate without it feeling like it would potentially release accidentally.
This keychain is great. I am sooooo tired of the junk you get at the hardware store that works for one day then falls apart. This thing is built to last--it actually takes quite a bit of elbow grease to pull the dang thing apart, but it goes back together easily and you are confident that it will stay stuck together until the next time you need to separate it, i.e. no fear of leaving 1/2 your keys somewhere where you did not intend to do so. 5 stars.
