I'm one of the early bird kickstarters. The fucking thing arrived YESTERDAY, in the mail. Despite the poor, POOR handling of their kickstarter, the product works as advertised. I'm disappointed that the glass on the cover breaks with very little force. I ordered a coil reciever and a QiPack for the iPhone 5, and recieved the QiPack and Coil Reciever for an iPhone 6. I'd advise that you pick another charger, based on poor experience alone. It's a very neat and handy product, but unfortunately it's hard to maintain a charge whilst using the phone. I use it with a cord now, and while I was waiting more than a year(exx but you get the point) for the damn thing to arrive, I had purchased another charger. Not because I thought it would be a quick process(kickstarter), but because I knew I might be getting scammed because despite all the progress updates, the product had yet to ship.
I'm sorry, I just had such a poor experience I need to let everyone know.
As someone who was an original backer of the kickstarter, the final product does work nice. The only advice I could give is to expect the product to arrive much later than you expect. On kickstarter I was forced to wait close to a year, but it will probably not be as long as a wait for massdrop backers because QiPack has probably gotten its act figured out by now.
In response to all of the comments, and to do a special thing for the Massdrop community, we've arranged with the vendor to add a much, much lower drop point for this listing. Thanks for talking about this product in the discussion section, it's awesome to see this sort of thing work in practice!
Hey guys, I think there's a little confusion going on here so I'll try to clarify a bit.
The QiPack is ready to charge any Qi enabled phones such as the ones in the list provided by QiPack(thanks btw for that). This drop also comes with an extra coil that can be attached to your iPhone and plugs into the lightning port which will then let you use the QiPack with your current case of choice. As a bonus, there is an included case which does the same thing as the coil, but lets you keep the iPhone 6 gold style body.
As far as I can tell, the Touch of Modern sale is only offering the Qi base station and the little charging coil, but not the extra iPhone case.
Thanks everyone and I'll try to make the copy a little more clear, but let us know if you have any questions
The output current is 1 A. That's a slow charge, friends. It's what you'd see plugging your phone into a USB port on your computer. This thing looks pretty sweet, but, you know, know what you're getting. :)
You meant 500mA, but you're right! My bad. I was off by a factor of 2, which is kind of a lot. :)
However, battery management systems in phones will down step the current to safely charge your device. I use a 2A charger with my Bluetooth headset that shipped with a 180mA charger all the time. Have been for like a year. It's like 11x the current it needs. It's fine. I don't know if iPhones are dumber, but most micro USB devices are fine with any charger. The current will determine how fast it charges up to the maximum supported current of the device. A device supporting up to 1A won't charge faster with a 2A charger, but a device that ships with a 2.1A charger will charge much slower with a 180mA charger.
Right? Am I crazy? Are all of my devices going to explode?
Honestly, all this has going for it is looks. The Sony 5000mAh Wireless Portable Charger has a larger battery and is cheaper than the lowest drop at just straight retail pricing ($59.99).
I'm pretty sure that my Nexus 4/5/7 and Droid Turbo work just fine without a need for a case receiver. Even my Moto 360 will work just fine with any Qi charger.
Now, if I was going for looks and feel, this would win out. Problem is, I'm more focused on bang-for-the-buck, so this still loses out for me. The additional accessories only benefit iPhone users, so I'm already outside the target demographic as evidenced by my above list of devices.
Regardless, I do hope this goes through for those that can benefit from this charger, wireless charging is just too convenient to give up.
wild_oneI have a V3z, and like you, I need no adapters or anything like that for my phone. The Sony was what came to my mind as well when I saw this drop.
And Agreed, If someone needs a bundle Charger/Converter/Case like this, I hope it gets down to a lower price for them.
russomike, I think the list that was posted is for integrated devices that don't need some kind of addon. I think there's a pad that can be plugged into your phone via lightning cable and you put it under your phone case? Or adheres to the back of the phone? Not sure. The site says "Requires Case or Coil Receiver." So there may be a special case that's not included in this drop.
@timothy.eric you are correct, iPhone needs coil or case receiver, because iPhone was not "Qi-en abled", see this image for the listing of "Qi-enabled Phones"
