What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. If you're left with unanswered questions, you'll most likely find the info you're looking for in the original write-up. On my imaginary top list of the most useful keyboard features, tweaks and hacks, SpaceFN would deserve a podium finish for sure. But what makes it so special? In short: SpaceFN is easy to implement, easy to learn, costs nothing, can be used with any keyboard, and can improve your productivity instantly. I will list its benefits below, but can state right at this point that the SpaceFN concept, setting up your space key as a layer switch when held, is clearly one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby....

https://www.massdrop.com/talk/330/custom-3-d-printed-keycaps - Bought that very keycap as well as many others a longgg time ago. Can't justify the 30$ pricetag.
Also , mine lets Light through the eyes...o-o
So go buy that printed one for $6 and I will continue to buy caps that aren't for whatever price I want to pay.
My god, we have reached a new low, comparing the cheapest material for 3D printing a cap to a resin cast cap and saying the 3D one is worth it because of pricing. lol
Cheers.
P.S. , at any point have I told you not to purchase it? I showed a substitute to that horrific price point. clearly said TMO.
My god, we have reached a new low, Ignoring text and context. ;) ily 2
In no way are your 3D printed caps ever going to be of the same value as a resin casted one, unless you buy metal printed caps. Lastly the only other way your caps could ever be anywhere close to any resin cap is by having it painted multiple times by https://keypressgraphics.com/author/keypress/
Of whom I have spoken with directly, just like with Tasker the cap designer himself. You have as many clues as Clue the game in SP, meaning, none.
You have no idea but go ahead and think this guy is in the right, wait till you own a 3D printed cap unpainted versus a mold cast cap.
You win internet, they got to me.
An argument can be made for either side here, if someone feels the price is warranted then I don't think they should be deterred from purchasing it, however if someone else just wants the sculpt because it's a cute little silly kitten then maybe paying $6 for a 3D printed one isn't the worst thing in the world.
As to the last part, agreed to a degree, my point is, you cannot say one is actually physically better than the other when it's 3D printed versus casted especially just comparing materials and build structure. FFS stop supporting this mentality.
What's next? Saying a grocery cart is a car and a viable means of transportation because it costs a fraction of the price of a car? WTF?
I'm not supporting anything of the sort - I'm supporting people doing what they want to do depending on their needs/desires. If they want a cheaper quality, cheaper feel version of the same sculpt then 3D will do - if they want a cast version that's studier, more detailed etc, then buy that. I'd never compare the materials personally nor would I go out of my way to argue that one should be bought over the other, or that one's price isn't warranted because of the other. My only argument here is that they both have things going for them and people should act and buy accordingly.
Again, I do agree that comparing apples to oranges price-wise is not the direction I would've taken when building a case against/for these.
I want people to have choices, 3D printed is one of them, having started there, I know. But all this comparison stuff at these prices, ridiculous.
This is the MD we must get used to, people never buying anything here but telling everyone where to go buy their stuff. (implying he's like the rest of them, can't tell as he has a private profile.)
I am at the point that I can't ever rely on a non-verified purchasers opinion. Like Amazon, if it isn't verified, I am not interested.
Edit: scratch that, shipping from shapeways to australia is exorbitant. $19.50 USD to ship compared to $4.75 on MD.
I was looking at the extreme quality one and a basic one (about $26 AUD and $8 AUD). I'm curious why ultra/extreme detail are only available in frosted. Can you do extreme detail in black?
Thanks.
Edit: just realised you aren't the creator lol. Just ummm ignore all that :P
Look.
Tasker makes designs, KPG paints them.
If you buy 3D caps, they suck unless you pay for metal or frosted. And then they need to be painted. Unless you like it that way.
More to say, sad Chrome destroyed my post because I am hammered. Pressing keys I shouldn't.
grow up gou stuck up prick. ita a fucking keycap youre ranting and treating people like trash over their opinions claiming yours is superior.
burst your pathetic lil richboy bubble.
for example the bear and kitty one stay snug and good. but many other keycaps came loose fitting and some even had their inside not being printed properly.
for that reason when i did use the 3d keycaps ive put them on keys i dont use very often , Fx keys and random stuffs around it. but even then ive had keys launching into the abyss completely randomly cuz i accidentally pressed down the button and itll just fly off ;D
the qualify of the build is fine, it feels like a 6$ thing obv - but as another person above said - theyre not the type of keycaps youll probs put in a commonly used key. theyre more estetic if anything.
Build quality is fine , i got the basic ones it doesnt break or anything.
Color is fading out - mine are set om my Esc and NumLock and theyre still in great shape snug and all but the color is defo fading on top.
overall i think theyre worth it. I bought a bulk of keycaps and Shapeways was great with me when one keycap was printed improperly.
and i dont think they feel the same as normal keycaps but nothing horrible either! they have a bit of a rough texture they feel light and hollow. gotta keep in mind he material theyre made of is not in any way specially used for keycaps. its the same plastic they use to print silly tiny thing to big complex things. this just falls in the middle. It feels okay. nothing too bad- and am picky ;D
ill defo buy again from Shapeways.
Nice nice... i bet you do alot of charity work too - oh wait they dont reward people with fancy pieces of plastic. nvm. stay here buying keycaps thats okie sh sh das okie.
Pathetic. and what made tou think i cant afford it? the fact i chose not to buy it? XD
youre a special one , mighty keyboard pledge.
Love the design. please do feel free to send me a bajillion samples. cheers. ;D
