MSRP for a Sub hommage running a basic ETA 2824 was 2400 USD? Yeah right, Invicta approach to MSRP to make the regular price look like a bargain... For that price one is much better off with a Glycine Combat Sub, at least it's not a hommage...

AleskbExactly what I was thinking. The minute I saw the MSRP I was like... Well, what the hell is the movement. When I saw it was an ETA, I knew this deal was just wrong. Massdrop should put the average commercial price for a piece instead of the MSRP!
Also, I haven't researched the history of the brand, but my first thought is that an old name was bought by a (usually chinese) company, which proceeded to releaunch the company under the good light of a dated swiss brand, but without the swiss quality. The difference between MSRP and going price is INSANE!
EDIT : Ok, so after financial trouble, the watch part of the business was reformed with different partners. Althought, the going price for their watches on their site is in the lower-middle luxury range. But, I can't seem to find this modele, so maybe they decided to wholesale it to Massdrop and grey-market dealers? I don't know.
I am no expert in watches, but this deal seems weird to me. But for 400 USD, I don't think I'd buy it. At the end of the day, it's a Sub Homage like many others...

AleskbI never pay attention to the MSRP anymore, anywhere. They're never anywhere near true street value.

AlexLandrySI believe that Grovana (a Swiss watch brand) produces these watches and puts this companise name on it. For the price vs the specs this is a good deal. Would I like it to be closer to $300? Of course I would, but you can’t deny the fact that other companies (Stienhart, etc) charge a lot more for their Sub homages with the same specs. Just my opinion.

Omegaman68I totally agree! Altough, I would not buy a Steinhart either for the same reason!
I do believe that if they at least tried to change a few details, like the hands, or the bezel, I might be more inclined to buy it, but... It feels like buying a 100$ Invicta! Just a Swatch Group movement!

AlexLandrySI get it. Some original style changes would be a welcome addition to this timepiece.

Omegaman68Totally. The Glycine Combat Sub (that keeps dropping here every two-three months or so) is a good example of a diver doing something that's not an homage to the Sub!

AlexLandryS"Just a Swatch Group movement" is unfair for a watch at this price point, even substantially discounted. If you want a true in-house movement from a "manufacture" brand versus an "assemblage" brand, you better bring many thousands of dollars to the table, not just a few hundred dollars, and more likely tens of thousands if you want something that truly has zero derivation from an ETA movement. The "Swatch Group" movements have been propping up the Swiss watch industry with either whole movements or ebauches for decades. Furthermore, movements like the ETA 2824-2 (and the others in its family) come in four tiers from the basic through COSC chronometer certified. The 2892-2 family come in three tiers, omitting the "basic". Ebauches from ETA have been the foundation for countless movements with in-house calibers. What they don't tell you is how they started with the ETA ebauche and built onto it with a few of their own parts.

MadAnthonyWayneI know that, my comment was that this one had an ETA, which I a great and very commonly used movement. My point was that some other even cheaper homages, such as Invicta, dont even have that going for them!
